-3rd Person-
Night falls on Konoha, and the quiet hum of the village fades into a tense silence. In Kakashi's apartment, the air feels thick, like a storm waiting to break. Yui remains locked in her room, unmoving, while Kakashi paces back and forth in the hallway, his mind racing with the weight of the conversation he knows is coming.
The meeting with the Hokage and the elders haunts him. Their decision feels like a death sentence, and Kakashi can't shake the fear that he's losing Yui. Every moment feels like a countdown, and he's running out of time to change her mind.
He stops in front of Yui's door, his heart pounding in his chest. His hand hovers over the doorknob, but he hesitates. He's been trying to talk to her all day, but every word has been met with silence. Tonight, though tonight has to be different. It has to be.
Taking a deep breath, Kakashi finally knocks, his voice hoarse from hours of pleading.
"Yui... I know you can hear me." His voice cracks, betraying the desperation he's trying so hard to keep in check. "Please, open the door. We need to talk."
Inside, Yui lies still on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her mind is numb, lost in the fog of guilt and resignation that has consumed her. She hears Kakashi's voice, the pain in it cutting through the haze, but it only deepens her resolve. She can't let him stop her. She's already made her decision.
Kakashi deserves better, she thinks, her chest tightening. They all do.
The silence stretches on, and Kakashi clenches his fists at his sides, his patience fraying. He can't wait any longer. Not when the clock is ticking so loudly in his head. With a determined sigh, he grips the doorknob and turns it, pushing the door open.
Yui doesn't flinch when the door creaks open. She doesn't even look at him as he steps inside. Her eyes are vacant, her face pale and tear-stained. The sight of her breaks something inside Kakashi, but he pushes his own pain aside. This isn't about him. It's about her. It's always been about her.
"Yui," he says softly, stepping closer to the bed. "I can't just sit here and watch you do this. You don't have to go through with the ritual. There has to be another way."
Yui's breath catches at his words, but she doesn't respond. She just stares up at the ceiling, her body tense, her mind locked in a battle between fear and inevitability.
Kakashi kneels beside the bed, his voice trembling with emotion. "I know you think this is the only way, but you're wrong. You don't have to carry this burden alone. You've been doing it for so long, and I'm so sorry I let you. But I'm here now. Please... let me help you."
Yui's lip quivers, but she bites down hard, forcing herself to stay silent. She can't let his words get to her. She can't let herself hope, not now. It's too late for that.
Kakashi reaches for her hand, his touch gentle but firm. "You're not a danger to us, Yui. You're not a burden. I don't care what the elders say, I don't care what anyone says. You're part of this village, and I will protect you. I promised I would."
Yui's throat tightens as the tears well up again, but she fights them back. Why can't he see? She pulls her hand away from his, her voice a barely audible whisper. "You don't understand, Kakashi. I have to do this."
Kakashi's breath catches in his throat. Her voice, it's the first time she's spoken to him in hours, and it feels like a punch to the gut. He shakes his head, his heart breaking with every word she says.
"No, you don't," he says, his voice rising with urgency. "You don't have to seal yourself away. That's not the answer. Please, Yui, don't do this. Don't let them take you from us."
Yui finally turns her head to look at him, her crimson eyes dull with exhaustion. "You're wrong," she whispers, her voice trembling. "I am a danger. I've hurt people. I've hurt you, Kakashi. I can't keep doing this. The ritual... it's the only way I can protect you all."
Kakashi's eyes widen, his chest tightening painfully. "Yui, no... You're not protecting us by disappearing. You're not saving anyone by doing this. You're just-"
"I'm saving you from me," Yui cuts him off, her voice breaking as she speaks the words she's been holding inside for so long. "Don't you see? Every day, I'm one step away from losing control. If I stay... someone will get hurt. And I can't live with that."
Kakashi shakes his head fiercely, his hands gripping her shoulders as he leans closer. "That's not true. You're stronger than you think, Yui. You've been through so much, and you've come so far. Don't throw it all away because of fear."
Yui's body trembles beneath his grip, her eyes brimming with tears. "I don't want to hurt anyone anymore," she whispers, her voice barely audible. "I can't keep putting you all in danger."
Kakashi's heart shatters at her words, but he refuses to give up. He can't. Not when he knows how much she means to him, to Naruto, to the village. He won't let her disappear without a fight.
"Yui," he says, his voice thick with emotion, "you're not alone in this. I won't let you carry this burden by yourself. If you think you're a danger, then let me help you. Let me find a way. But don't do this. Don't give up."
Yui's tears spill over, her chest heaving with sobs as she shakes her head. "You don't understand," she chokes out. "I can't be saved, Kakashi. This is who I am. This is what I was meant for. The ritual... it's the only way to keep everyone safe."
Kakashi's grip on her shoulders tightens, his own tears threatening to spill as he stares into her eyes. "I don't accept that," he says firmly, his voice trembling. "I won't let you believe that your life is only worth sealing away. You're more than that, Yui. You're more than your power. Please, don't do this."
For a moment, Yui hesitates. His words cut through the darkness in her mind, and for just a second, she feels the weight of her choice. She sees the pain in his eyes, the desperation in his voice, and it breaks her heart. She wants to believe him, she wants to hold onto the hope he's offering, but the fear, the guilt, it's too strong.
"I'm sorry," she whispers, her voice barely audible. "I've already made my decision."
Kakashi's face crumples and he pulls her into a tight embrace, his voice cracking as he speaks. "No, Yui, please... don't leave me. Don't leave us. We need you."
Yui buries her face in his shoulder, her tears soaking into his vest as she clutches at him. Her body shakes with sobs, but even as she cries, she knows her decision is final. She's already preparing herself, mentally and emotionally, for what's to come.
The ritual is her only path.
That night, while Kakashi sleeps in the room beside her, exhausted and broken, Yui begins her silent preparations. She moves quietly, her heart heavy with the weight of her decision, but resolved nonetheless. She slips a small pouch of offerings into her bag, her token of surrender to the gods, to fate.
As the village slumbers, Yui steels herself for the final step. The shrine awaits, and she knows there's no turning back.
