A/N: what's up guys?? So I know I've been away for a while but I'm back to write y'all a fic!!! I've been watching one of us is lying and this is very special to me because I read the books during covid year or before in middle school and it was so good!! I had a special liking to Nate who is the resident bad boy but ya know it's fine, anyways I thought I would make a story for him and all that!! So here's a super special story written by yours truly, I hype you all enjoy it as much as I enjoys writing it!!! I will also say this SPOILERS!!! It had been months after Simon's death and things were finally getting back to normal, or whatever was left of normal for the Bayview four. Bronwyn and Nate had been together since Jake's Halloween party so when she sent her normal good morning text and Nate didn't respond she got worried. When she saw him at school she all but ran up to their lockers " hey you look awful are you okay? That's a dumb question of course you're not okay." Bronwyn asked while reaching towards Nate to see if he had a fever, " I'm here because I can't miss anymore school and moms still at home trying to get me to leave with her." Nate explained wincing at the soreness in his throat the same time the bell rang signaling that classes were about to start, " I'll see you after class I promise." Bronwyn blurted out before dashing in the direction of her class. Of course focusing in class wasn't working while knowing her boyfriend was struggling and In his own class right now but she couldn't help but send a text to him checking up once again, not even a few seconds passed before he had sent a message back confirming he was still in fact okay.
When lunch rolled around they all meet at their usual table still getting weird looks and whispers in their direction. Nate was the first one there pushing his food around on his tray before pushing it away not feeling hungry right as the rest of the 'murder club' as they were dubbed sat down Bronwyn next to him Addy across and Cooper next to Addy and Janae on the other side of her. The scent of the food making him feel nauseous as well as light headed as he set his head down on the table as the group conversed about classes and who was saying what, "Nate you alright? Your never this quite especially when we talk bout who still wants us behind bars" Janae questioned bringing the unwanted attention on him. "Huh? Oh yeah I don't care what half of the kids say, I'm not going to see them after this year anyways." Nate snapped not meaning to but his head was killing him now as well as his throat, " oh come on! yes you do, you said it the other day when you tried to fight that kid near your locker or when you stood up for bronwyn when that girl was questing her for bailing you out huh? What happened?" Janae interrogated. "Enough please, my head is already killing me enough without your stupid questions okay?! I do care and I actually care a lot but I'm trying to forget what people are saying and move on with my life, just-" Nate gets interrupted by a coughing fit that left him out of breath.
Once lunch ends Nate rushes out to his bike trying to beat Bronwyn so she doesn't asks any questions but at the same time he wants to wait for her so he doesn't worry her. Lost in thought he didn't notice Bronwyn sneaking up behind him, " what the hell was that Nate?! First you deny it but then you go and admit it after?" Bronwyn all but yelled gaining some looks from fellow students. They stayed like that staring at each other the only thing in between them being Nate's bike, " you look awful Nate, let's just skip last period and let me drive you back to my house so that I can properly take care of you. I can tell you have a fever not a high one but a low grade one at least with the way you're shaking and sweating at the same time, your also deathly pale and have bags under your eyes and before you interject with some stupid excuse I'm taking you home next period." Bronwyn ranted grabbing his hand and pulling him towards her car.
Once Bronwyn made sure the coast was clear of her parents ( who didn't like idea of her dating Nate) got him some how out of the car and up the stairs to her room where she laid him down on the bed and ran back down to get all the necessary items. When she came back into he room Nate was already knocked out asleep but twisting and turning like he was caught in a nightmare, which might have been true because fever dreams are a thing and as concerning as it sounded she climbed besides him running her fingers through his hair to help him calm down. " Nate it's okay just wake up I'm right here it's okay, lemme check your fever and give you some meds." Bronwyn whispered shaking Nate slightly getting him to wake up for a bit to make it easier in her, " why are you doing this? I mean out of all the guys you chose me why?" Nate asked because that question had been on his mind for ages, " because just like I told you at the Halloween party, your not like every other guy, you care and your smart and sweet and have a real lizard a bunch of other things but I love you for you Nate and that won't chance." Bronwyn ranted.
The following day Nate had started feeling better his head wasn't killing him as much, the nauseating feeling was no longer there and he was actually hungry for once. His fever had broken earlier that morning, they had learned he hadn't been sleeping and on top of that he was stressing about what he would do about his mom but all that was behind him possibly for the better.
