Hey everyone!! I'm back with a new obsession - I'm watching season one of Tracker and just caught the season two premiere, and now I can't get enough! I appreciate your patience with me, but updates might be a bit slower than usual due to work causing a lot of anxiety this week. I'm alive and okay though! I hope you all enjoy this story as much as the others. I'm also proud of how far my writing has come. Walking into this job, Colter knew it'd be dangerous. Doing it while you have a fever makes it even worse. You see, Colter Shaw was trying to help a couple find their two teens, Luke and Skylar, who had been taken during the night. A couple of days prior, Colter felt like he was coming down with something. All of his friends knew ( including Rennie, but who's counting anymore) and were trying to give him space, knowing he didn't have the most stable childhood.
He tried keeping Velma and Teddy in the loop as much as possible, but right now, he felt like ghosting everyone and staying in his RV until he got over whatever this was. Waking up to his home ringtone was not the way he wanted to start his day, his head was pounding which made his stomach turn, and to put the icing on the cake he hadn't slept in over 24 hours. Putting his head into his hands the ringing of his phone finally the person who was calling had given up but it didn't last long as he heard the familiar tone of texts coming through, finally got the courage to look at his phone Colter's head sent another shockwave of pain through his skull.
getting the courage to call back whoever had called him he remembered the case he was working to get these kids home and taking this long was very unusual for him. The reason people called him was to help find missing things faster than when the police would do it, seeing how it had been rennie to call and text him he sent a text back saying how he just woke up and would be on the move soon but that didn't seem like a good enough answer for reenie as she called him yet again the noise sending pain. " Reenie look I was going to call you but I lost track of time, I haven't been sleeping the best or at all and I'm just wearing down. I think I might be getting sick with something. Still, I don't know." colter admitted knowing Reenie was in her office with Velma who was listening into the convocation. " look I wasn't going to chew you out because we have a lead and Bobby found some stuff that should help on getting a location for these missing kids, and why do you think you've been not sleeping?" she asked her mood shifting. Still, her voice not betraying her once while glancing over at Velma.
after ending the call he looked at the texts Reenie had sent of where the missing teens could be, jumping into his truck he went to the last known location, and surprisingly found evidence that they were still there just not right now. hiding out he would corner the man when they came back and would grab the children and bring them back, but nothing ever really works out for any of the shaws. Reenie had called both of the other Shaw siblings to see if they could meet and go talk some science into Colter along with Reenie because he only listened to them for some reason, upon pulling up to the abandoned warehouse they could hear yelling, and Colter trying to get the man to give up the teens and no one would get hurt.
"Just let them go, they didn't do anything to you. Don't hurt them anymore give them to me and no one gets hurt." Colter tried reasoning the guy but nothing was getting through to him and Colter was feeling the effects of not sleeping as a wave of dizziness passed over him. He lowered his gun for a split second but that was all it took for the man to take aim and shoot, letting the dizziness and fever take over he slumped to the ground. it was the only sleep he'd had in over 24 hours so he welcomed it with open arms not hearing the frantic calls of his name and the crying of Luke and Skylar who had gotten free, he didn't hear the sirens of the police cars and ambulances either.
when you don't sleep days on end and go unconscious you tend to have very weird and vivid dreams, colter would call out for his family, his friends, and names of people he'd found in his time of tracking. One night it got so severe they almost took him to ICU, colters fever had somehow gotten up to 104.9 and they had to get him cooled down or he'd go into a seizure, eventually, they did get his fever down to an exceptional rate and was out of the danger zone for the time being. seeing up IVs of different medicines to help get it under control, on day five of him just sleeping he was finally starting to become aware. Dorry noticed this and stood up alerting Russell his baby brother was waking up and would probably have to fill him in on some things.
finally being cleared to go home colter left and somehow his truck was parked in a space but Russel was leaning up against it like he was waiting for his brother on purpose, " so what happened out there? Rennie gave me and Dorry some information but I'm still confused." Russell admitted, which was unusual for him to do since he was the oldest which always made him right. " I don't know just some old nightmares that resurfaced and didn't want to sleep because of them and I guess I overworked myself." colter answered casually shrugging it off which made the oldest even more concerned, but that was a different mystery for a different time, rolling his eyes he and colter go into their vehicles and went their separate ways.
