A/N: hey y'all, so this is a fic for Ryan Hart and what it would be like if the 113 was helping the 118 with a fire and Ryan ends up sick with Buck taking care of him. I'm on season 5 of 911 and am all caught up with 911: Nashville, Ryan and Buck are my favorites if you couldn't tell! Anyways I'm still dealing with health issues and have no answers yet, I don't want to disclose anything here because it's online and you have to be careful. Anyways here's the fic and hope you all enjoy! -Nico *****************************************

It was a massive fire, the 118 needed all hands on deck and the 113 were more than ready to help. Multiple people passed during the fires but what the two stations learned was going to change everything.
Ryan was doing fine, or pretending he was, which is basically the same thing in his mind until it isn't. Between the smoke, the heat, and the way his stomach had already been turning since breakfast, he starts to sway mid-triage. And that's when Evan Buck Buckley sees him, Not the uniform. Not the patch. Him.
Buck's brain does that weird thing where everything slows down except his pulse. Because the face is familiar — too familiar. Not in the celebrity way Ryan is known around LAFD circles. No. In the family way. Eyes shaped like his mother's. The exact tilt of her brother's smile.
He's staring so hard he doesn't even realize Ryan is about to go down until, "Woah, hey—hey!" Buck drops into a crouch, catching Ryan under the arms just before he hits the ground. Ryan grips his turnout jacket with trembling fingers, groaning softly. Blue, Don, and half the 113 turn at the noise. "Easy," Buck says, slipping into that mix of medic-calm and Buck-soft. "You with me? Breathe, okay? Sit with me."
Ryan tries to wave him off. Bad idea. His vision whites out for a second. Buck's hand goes straight to the back of his neck, steady and grounding. "You're not okay. I've got you." And Ryan , who never lets himself be taken care of by strangers doesn't fight it. Because something about Buck feels safe, Like someone he should know. Blue jogs over. "He didn't eat. Again." He sighs exasperated as Buck snorts a very Buck snort. "Great timing."
Ryan mutters, "M'fine." "You're not," Buck counters just as Ryan's stomach lurches. Buck shifts him quickly, one hand behind Ryan's shoulders. "Hey—hey, it's alright. You're good, I've got you." And just like that, Ryan gets sick. Miserably. Embarrassed. Barely upright. Buck doesn't flinch. This, everyone realizes, is not a normal level of patience.
When Ryan's breathing evens out, he slumps against Buck's shoulder, exhausted. Buck brushes the hair off Ryan's forehead absentmindedly a gesture he only uses with people he loves. Blue blinks. Don blinks. Bobby Nash, watching from twenty feet away, squints like something is clicking into place. Then Buck murmurs, too soft for anyone but Ryan to hear: "You look like... family." Ryan's eyes crack open. Confused. Vulnerable. "Wha—?"
Buck swallows, realizing he said it out loud. "Sorry. I just—my mom's side of the family. You look like..." His voice falters. "Like people I've lost." Ryan's brow furrows. "My mom... uh... she was a Buckley. Before she married." Everything around Buck goes quiet. Like the universe just slammed on the brakes. "Wait." He pulls back just enough to look Ryan in the face. "What was her maiden name?"
Ryan tells him. Buck's breath leaves him in a shaky exhale, "That's, no. No way. That's my grandmother's sister. Ryan..." He looks like he's trying not to cry on-shift. "We're cousins." Both the 113 and 118 Freeze, "...I'm sorry, WHAT?" Blue asks confused , "Explains the stubborn." Jokes Don, "Of COURSE Buck finds family in the middle of a call." Exclaimed Chimney, "Classic." Hen adds on
Ryan is overwhelmed, sick, shaky, and baffled but the softness in Buck's eyes anchors him. "Cousins?" Ryan repeats, voice small. Buck nods, smiling in that breathless, emotional Buck way. "Yeah. And you're not collapsing on my watch again. Scoot over, you're stuck with me now." Ryan actually laughs, half-delirious. Buck tucks an arm around his shoulders.
"Let's get you feeling human." Buck adds throwing Ryan's arm around his neck supporting his weight . And just like that, in the middle of chaos, vomit, sirens, and smoke, Ryan Hart finds the cousin he never knew he had, and Buck finds a piece of family he thought he'd lost forever.
The ride back was a pain, Ryan was riding with Buck in the 118 truck back to the station where they could keep a proper eye on him, Don, Blue and the rest of the 113 were following behind. Bobby had been gracious enough to let them crash in the bunks for the night until they had to make the drive back. Every bump made Ryan almost throw up in his mouth, the bitter taste of bile stinging his throat.
" how you doing Ry?" Buck asked cautiously, looking at his new found cousin with a look that could only be described as awe. Glancing back from the passengers seat, Don ( who had also road back with the 118) couldn't get over the fact that even more new family had come into their lives, when he didn't receive an answer Don looked back again to see his son trying to sleep on Bucks shoulder, sending a photo to Blythe he updated her on the situation.
Pulling into the station Don and Buck worked quickly to get Ryan out of his turnouts as fast as they could to keep him from over heating to much, the kid was knocked out from hiding he was fine almost all day. The rest of the 118 had busied themselves with different tasks making sure they didn't get in the way of the new family members bonding, Bobby was at the stove making the broth that he made Buck all the time when he would get sick at the station.
Hen and Chimney were restocking the ambulance since they were running low after the call while also talking to Roxie, and Eddie was talking to blue while waiting for Buck to come back out and explain. Hearing the bunk door closing, Eddie perked up as the sound of Don and Buck walking back up the stairs to the kitchen. No one dared to ask knowing Buck would eventually tell them what was going on.
Everyone was feeling unsettled, it was another secret both Buck and Ryan's families had kept from the both of them, finally Blue spoke up. " how did we not know we had a cousin on moms side? I'm guessing grandad had something to do with this?" He asked very straight to the point only a brother could do, " I uh I never knew about it either your mother never mentioned anything about your grandmothers life while she was alive." Don explained hesitantly.
A few Hours later Ryan gets up and joins both crews out in the kitchen looking at both stations working together setting up a nice meal cooked by Bobby, " hey kid how are ya feeling? You're looking better." Chimney pipes up from setting the plates, napkins, and silverware as Bobby places a great smelling soup on the table as well. " hey Ry how you holding up? I know it's been a very weird shift right now. I don't blame you for being overwhelmed." Buck spoke from where he was standing leaning on the beam near the fridge just watching.
Hours later Ryan's fever finally started dropping and things were looking like the would be almost back to normal after some good rest. Thankfully the meds were helping Ryan's stomach so he was able to eat some broth with plan toast on the side as well, " hey let's keep in touch. Ya know when yall go back to Nashville?" Buck asks nervously like Ryan was going to turn him down as the 113 loaded up in their trucks to head out.
"Definitely, I'd like to keep in touch especially after I did throw up on your boots yesterday." Ryan joked as he loaded up and the trucks left the 118 with the everything that happened was for the better. ***************************************** Heyyy yall, I know it's been a while but here's a new chapter for you all! I hope you enjoy it. Updates might be slow as I'm still figuring some health issues out still, but I'm hoping it's going into a positive direction. Please keep thinking of me ( I'm not religious but if you are feel free to pray on it) until next time! -Nico
