Tim Bradford did not get sick,That was just a fact. Not because he couldn't,But because he didn't allow it. "Boot, you're drifting." Lucy glanced over, blinking. "I'm literally in my lane." Tim didn't respond right away. Which was the first sign something was off. Lucy frowned slightly.
"Tim?" He blinked like he was coming back online, "you're fine," he muttered. Lucy's grip tightened on the wheel, Okay,That was weird.
Across the city, Nolan felt it too. Not physically, But mentally. Something was off. He couldn't explain it, but it sat in the back of his mind all shift nagging, persistent, Bradford.
It had to be, He'd seen him earlier just for a second and something hadn't lined up. Tim Bradford didn't look, worn down, He looked run down, there was a difference and Nolan couldn't shake it.
Back in the shop, Tim's hand tightened briefly on the edge of the counter when Lucy wasn't looking. A sharp spike of pain shot up his side. He exhaled slowly through it.
Controlled. Contained. Ignored.
Lucy turned back just in time to catch the tail end of it. "you good?"
"I'm fine." Too fast, Too flat, Lucy's eyes narrowed. "Tim" "I said I'm fine, boot." That tone. End of discussion. Except, Lucy didn't move on, Not this time.
It happened fast,Too fast.
One second Tim was standing, the next He staggered. Lucy's eyes widened. "Tim!" He caught himself on the counter, but barely. His breathing had gone uneven.
Shallow, Wrong, Nolan stepped in just as it happened, his instincts kicking in immediately. "Hey, sit down," Nolan said, already guiding him. "I'm fine," Tim tried again. But his voice cracked this time.
And that, That was what did it. Lucy and Nolan both froze, Because Tim Bradford's voice did not crack. Ever. "Something's wrong," Lucy said, firm now.
Tim didn't argue, didn't have the energy and that was worse. The hospital lights were too bright. Nolan sat in the waiting room, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor. Lucy paced, back and forth, back and forth.
