Secrets

I arrived at work shortly after my run in with Eddie, and I'm nervous. How am I supposed to just act like nothing happened?

"Hey Buck! How's it going?" Chimney smiled as I walked into the kitchen at the station.

"Oh uh, great. Just didn't sleep much last night" I half chuckled

"Oh I bet you were busy" chimney smirked

"Haha, no. Not like that. Just couldn't sleep" I told him. And he smirked at me in exchange.

"Oh hey Buck" Eddie said casually as he walked by and I suddenly got really nervous.

"Hey Eddie" I sighed then walked over to the gym in the station.

"Hey Buck, Christopher has a science fair on Saturday and wants to know if you'll be there" Eddie asked as he came over to spot my bench press.

"Uh yeah, I'll be there. Can't say no to Christopher can I?" I chuckled as I lifted the weights.

I glanced up at him and bit my lip staring up at him with his crotch in my face. He looked down and I quickly tried to look away and continue with my sets.

"Sounds great. He'll be super excited to have you there" Eddie exclaimed.

I was so distracted by Eddie standing above me that I dropped the weight. Eddie quickly grabbed it off my chest and asked if I was okay

"I'm fine, I'm good" I muttered as I stood up. I walked away and went to the bathroom to try to be alone and clear my head.

I was standing at the sink, rinsing my face and trying to think straight when the door opened and Eddie walked in.

"Eddie...you don't have to check on me" I sighed and wiped my hand over my face.

"I'm just trying to make sure you're okay" he said quietly as he cupped my face in his hand. I leaned into his hand before I snapped myself out of this trance he puts me in.

"Eddie, we're at work..." I started to say but he took a step closer to me. "We can't do this here, not any of it" I whispered "especially if Tom-"

I was cut off by his lips gently pressing into mine. I slowly kissed him back before pulling away. He held my face in his hands and smiled at me before kissing my forehead. "It's okay, our secret until you figure out what you want" he whispered before walking away.

I gathered my thoughts and left the bathroom just in time for the tones to drop. I made a run for my gear and hopped on the truck.

We arrive on scene and all we see is a cloud of smoke and debris everywhere. "Alright guys! Let's go! Eddie, Buck start searching. Hen, Chimney you're on triage" captain Nash yells, so we all jump into action.

Eddie and I pulled a lady out of the car in the middle of the wreck, and found her dog for her. They were fine. We didn't think anything of it until the lady started screaming for her baby.

Eddie and I searched everywhere and eventually found the baby under a larger vehicle near by. The baby was barely breathing so we started CPR and doing everything we could, but unfortunately we couldn't save him. Hen loaded him into the ambulance to take to the hospital while the rest of us got back on the trucks.

We got back to the station and I took my gear off before heading upstairs. I sat on my bed and just broke down. Not today, I've got too much in my head. I put my head in my hands and just sobbed.

I felt someone's hand on my back so I looked up and saw Tommy. "Hey Evan, Eddie told me what happened" he said softly. I leaned into his chest so he wrapped his arms around me. "It's okay, everyone's got the calls that hit them harder than others" he whispered before softly kissing my forehead.
