I was nine at the time my parents weren't around. I don't remember much, since even during the times I lived with them, the blurry memories consisted of nothing but emptiness and pain.
But I did love them. Nostalgia would usually visit me whenever it was snowing, because the only day I can remember with them is Christmas. How I got my first present. How we took pictures. How my mother hugged me.
Even their names are obscured recollections. Different colors would swarm around with undefiled state of origins— some which were familiar, however others different from what I wanted to remember. One thing was obvious, though.
I would always remember this distant farm, waterfall and a village. Taehyung's home.
"Try to take it from me!," Jungwon screamed and ran around the garden, almost slipping and falling, but he regained his balance right away and continued sprinting away from Haerin.
The feline huffed and stopped chasing her cousin, one eye closed and her hands on her knees, panting with tiredness. "C'mon, Jungwon!," She almost begged and sniffed. When her cousin heard the sniffle, he stopped and walked back to her.
He looked down at her frog plushie, scratching his nape from concern. "Sorry, I didn't know you would cry because of this," He said and gave it back to her, Haerin slowly grabbing it and looking up at him.
"Sorry for overreacting." The cat-eyed girl apologized and watched how her cousin put his hand on her shoulder, a smirk playing on his lips.
"You're chasing now!," He giggled and started running, not even letting Haerin take in the information.
She huffed and started jogging towards him. "Not fair! I was taking a break!!," She screamed, but started laughing.
The sunlight was strong, making Haerin a bit dizzy from how hot it was outside. Sounds of birds and locusts were prominent in the air, making it feel like a middle of summer more as the time went by. After her parents' disappearance Haerin was dropped off at the farms, one of them being Taehyung's. He was more than happy to take her in. Their neighbors were their relatives— Yangs. Yang Jungwon was Haerin's official cousin, he would usually come over at Taehyung's house and play around with her. There were other kids too, but these two had more connection with each other than anyone else.
They would play around and get on everyone's nerves, they even managed to get Taehyung to join in a prank they played against Jungwon's father. He looked down at the kids, who were on the floor, laughing, after a bucket of water was splashed all over the older Yang. He had steam coming out from his ears. "YOU!"
