Ashoka escaped Lux, he was speaking rapidly into his holopad, brow scrunched as she snuck out of the room he had confronted her in-

And right into Obiwan, who looked worse off to wear.

He attempted a smile as he bowed his head.

"Ashoka, how are you?"

Her eyes dashed to Lux's figure, looking concerned at the holopad as he shook his head.

Obiwans gaze followed hers as he smiled, some of his old humour showing on his face.

"Come.. join me for a moment Ashoka."

When she looked hesitant he leaned in and whispered.

"If not to entertain an old friend. Then do it to avoid that young fool."

That made her smile, as she quickly joined Obiwan in his chambers of the ship.

Anakin was spread out on a cot staring up at the ceiling.

Before Ashoka could think better of it she asked.

"Why is he here?"

She figured after everything Anakin would want to be with Padmé.

Especially because they were going back to the rebels who would most likely throw him in a cell again the moment he stepped off this air craft.

Obiwan waved Anakin off as he sat down on his own cot, saying off handedly "he punched Clovis."

Anakin who was flicking his lightsabre in the air paused and glowered. Before saying.

"Hey snips."

The old nickname stole the oxygen from Ashokas lungs, she watched Anakin, shocked by his sudden act of normalcy... as if they were still padawan and master... as if the past six months hadn't happened.

She didn't know how to feel about him calling her snips. Especially when she still didn't know how she felt about him.

Anakin slowed his throwing for a moment raising an eyebrow at both Obiwan and Ashoka.

"What?"

Obiwan cleared his throat indicating to Ashoka not so subtly.

Anakin sat up shrugging.

"We're all going to be at the base soon. Lux will argue with them until they accept whatever agreement Satine wants. She joins us.. we fight the empire while trying to recruit more rebels until we're big enough to have a shot at beating them."

He paused allowing them to digest.

"I'm just doing what we all are. Ignoring the looming battles ahead and focusing on the seemingly small irrelevant things. We're all making them big deals to subconsciously distract ourselves from the very possibility of our impending deaths."

Ashoka was shocked. That might have been the smartest thing Anakin had ever said and the most terrifying. It was definitely the most insightful.  She almost wished Padmé was here to witness it. Especially as he said nodding to Obiwan.

"You and Satine are dancing around each other  instead of focusing on what the empire both cost you. And more importantly, what the battles ahead will cost you."

He turned to Ashoka next.

"You were mad at me at first..."

He paused, voice trembling slightly as he said.

"Mad at me for being a part of the empire, now you don't know how you feel. But deep down, you're upset with yourself, because you weren't there. You're blaming yourself for what happened to me and the Jedi- telling yourself that if you had been there... maybe it would have been different. That guilt your carrying, you use it now to sabotage any relationships your scared might work out positively"
