If there was one word to describe my face, it would be devastated, I guess. I guess the world was conspiring against me for saying no to Park and Kai in the first place.

I looked away for a bit, then turned back to Park, plastering a smile on my face. "That's good, na?"

"It will be good for Kai. I just want him to be loved."

"Will you be happy?"

"If Kai's happy, I am happy."

I looked over at Kai, who was laughing away with my mother. Seeing that face, I just made peace with the decision. He did deserve the best, and maybe someone who didn't second guess his presence from the start deserves him. We went to join Kai and my mother.

Kai was hungry and had already started on his lunch. Park and I went to change and then came back to have our food too. Kai scrambled over to Park and went "Dadaa" and fed him. Park smiled as he ate from Kai's hand. Once Kai had fed him, he came over to me and fed me too! I was stunned as I saw his little hand hand out the fruit to me. I thanked him, wanting to take it, but he shook his head. I looked at him as he kept his hand at my mouth. I finally opened my mouth, and Kai fed me the fruit. I smiled as I ate and ruffled his hair. Kai threw me a tiny hug and went back to his food.

I happened to look up and saw my mom looking at me wistfully. I smiled but shook my head. She was confused. Just then, I looked at Park.

"Park, maybe you should tell my mom the news you told me earlier."

"What is it, Park?"

"There's a prospective groom coming to see me tomorrow, auntie. He absolutely loves children, so that's the most important thing."

My mom nodded, smiling at Park, happy for him. She turned to look at me, though, but I looked away, just pretending to be engaged by my phone. The thing is, my mother knew me well. She knew fiddling with my phone was my way of evading the issue at hand. She sighed softly as I could feel her look of sympathy on me.

Post lunch, Kai and I just sat by the pool chatting. More like, he chatted aimlessly while I tried to piece his conversation together. He eventually got tired and fell asleep on my lap. I chuckled as I carried him slowly and went over to Park and my mom.

We all packed up and decided to leave. Park drove my car instead as I continued carrying Kai in my arms. We got back to my house where he said he will take an Uber home but my mom insisted he stayed over for the day at least. Park was hesitant but my mom won. I cheered inwardly as I went to set Kai on my bed.

"You should just place him in the guest bedroom." Park muttered softly. I tucked Kai in and turned to him.

"It's ok. Let him sleep here. Can I get you a beer? You can drink a bit right?"

"I haven't drank since Kai came into my life. It's ok."

I nodded, not wanting to change his routine now. We both grabbed a glass of soda and sat down in the balcony, chatting.

"You can drink Forth. I'm fine with it."

"It's ok. Plus if he wakes up and wanted to play with me, it wouldn't be nice if I smell of beer."

Park didn't say anything but just looked at me.

I smiled as I drank my ice cold lemon tea, a welcome refresh in the hot humid weather.

"What time is the groom coming tomorrow?"

"Dad said around 5pm."

"I see. Are you excited?"

"Hahah. Not so much, you silly man. I'm just okays. I mean if it makes my dad happy. And Kai is happy. That's all,"

"Don't you want to be happy too?"

Park looked at me and smiled.

"Can I be honest?"

"Of course."

"When I first heard I was marrying you, I was happy actually. Because you are my best friend. You know me best. You will get me. And I knew you will love Kai. Like your own. But I guess I didn't factor in that you didn't want kids. That left me abit stunned. I guess we learn something new about each other daily."

"Park..I.. I would still be happy."

"No. It's ok. It sounds more like of an obligation. Obligations..when one tires of it. It will become ugly. It's ok. Let's just remain as friends. Ok?"

I looked at Park dismayed, starting to realize the repercussions of my very hastily spoken words.
