Kai and I went down to my dad's house around 5 pm. He was waiting for us with my mom, who was so excited to see us both.

Ever since my dad and I had that quarrel over Kai, I have been staying in my own place, so they only saw me periodically.

My mom was thrilled to see Kai and carried him happily as he bounded up to her, crying out Grandma! I just chuckled quietly as I watched them. My dad watched them gruffly, but I knew better. He honestly loved Kai so much, too, though he was obviously being a selfish father first, which I couldn't blame him for. I sighed, but hopefully, it will work out this time.

I watched as he played with Kai but firmly reminded him to be nice and listen to me at all times. Kai just shook his head earnestly and snuggled against my dad. He was such a good kid.

Just then, the prospective groom's family came. It was one of my dad's business friends' family. The guy was a senior from my university previously, but I wasn't aware of who he was.

P Max smiled and nodded at me as he saw Kai come up and sit with me hesitantly as he was surprised by the number of people he saw. He didn't move an inch and just sat there watching us.

We chatted amongst us adults, and then P Max looked at Kai and beckoned him over.

"Hey buddy, I'm P Max. You are?"

Kai looked at me, and I nodded, asking him to chat with P Max. He looked back at P Max and smiled, "I...I am Kai. I am four. Right Dadaa?"

I smiled and nodded at Kai, proud of him. P Max smiled at him.

"He speaks fairly well, huh. I think there is so much potential. He will do well in Philips Exter Academy. He will grow up to be a worthy heir for us."

I looked at P Max, curious but didn't say anything. "That's nice but Philip Exter is too far plus we wouldn't have him with us. We can think about it when he's much older I guess."

"Have to start young, Park. So that our son will grow up to be a worthy heir."

I looked at P Max, confused utterly. But oddly, of all people, my father is the one who spoke up.

"What do you mean by Philip Exter Academy? That's a boarding school. Why would we send Kai there?"

"We want the best for Kai, don't we uncle? So we have to give him the finest education and upbringing."

"But then he wouldn't be with us.. he needs all the love and care now.."

"Some sacrifices are needed if we want him to grow up to be a fine man and also have the best opportunities in the world."

I stared at P Max, finally realizing. He didn't want a son to look after. He wanted a trophy. He wanted to groom someone to take over our business in the future. He may give Kai the best opportunities in life but the love and care?

I gripped my fists tightly, very aware of my anger that was starting to bubble. My dad saw and just placed his hand on mine firmly, shaking his head subtly.

He then looked at P Max and his family.
"I think we are both aligned that we want the best for Kai and it's nice. Plus you seem like a nice man but the way you want to look after Kai and the way we been looking after him is worlds apart. I don't think this will work out. I want my son and grandson to be happy. But they may be happy materialistically in your family but affection wise, not so much and that's what I want for my son."

I was stunned when I heard my dad. I really didn't expect him to speak up for me or Kai. P Max was stunned but didn't say anything. He just looked at his dad who sighed and they then took their leave.

Kai just watched everything quietly, not sure of what was going on. But once they all left, he just went over to my dad and hugged him. My dad just hugged him tightly, his eyes a little teary.

He just patted Kai's head, "Such a good kid, aren't you? Your dad has raised you well."

I didn't say anything. I couldn't, not when I was choking up internally. And I sure wasn't going to let anyone be aware that I was getting emotional myself.
