"I'm sorry, it's my fault for dragging everyone down this time," Tang Jing apologized, his eyes red.
Yu Yan opened his mouth, but after a long pause, swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
Wan An, even more at a loss for words, chose to stay silent.
It was Jiang Ran who finally spoke up. "It's fine, at least the mentors gave us two votes. We still have the audience vote, so we might not lose. Right, Ye Zexi?"
Ye Zexi nodded, but before he could respond, a familiar voice rang out—
"Well, isn't this rare. I didn't expect Tang Jing to make a mistake too."
Everyone turned to see Cui Yi walking over with a sarcastic smile plastered on his face.
Jiang Ran frowned in annoyance.
Yu Yan stepped in to defend Tang Jing. "Everyone makes mistakes. You don't have to kick him while he's down. Besides, the results aren't out yet—who's to say who'll win or lose? Right, Ye Zexi?"
All eyes turned to Ye Zexi, even Tang Jing's.
Unbeknownst to them, their five-person group had already begun to revolve around Ye Zexi.
Ye Zexi didn't answer Yu Yan. Instead, he tilted his head and glanced at Cui Yi.
His beautiful almond-shaped eyes glimmered with a touch of curiosity as he sized up the person in front of him.
Cui Yi, feeling uncomfortable under Ye Zexi's gaze, restrained his irritation. Given Ye Zexi's status, it wouldn't do to openly confront him. He could only force himself to ask, "What is it?"
Ye Zexi finally smiled, the confusion in his eyes dissipating. He shook his head and said, "Nothing. I was just curious about the foundation you're using today."
Cui Yi frowned, confused. "What?"
Ye Zexi tapped the corner of his eye with his slender finger, hinting with a knowing look. "It covered up your dark circles so well. I'm thinking if the brand knew, they'd probably be eager to have you as their exclusive spokesperson."
Cui Yi's expression changed instantly.
The bruises from his recent fight with Tang Jing had yet to fully fade. Fearing people would notice, he had been wearing heavy makeup for days.
Jiang Ran couldn't hold back and let out a soft chuckle. Ye Zexi's way of roasting people was exactly like the time he roasted him.
Everyone else had smiles they could barely suppress, and even Tang Jing's lips curved slightly.
"You..." Cui Yi gritted his teeth.
Ye Zexi feigned surprise. "What about me?"
"You may be strong, but—"
"I'm strong, I know that. No need to keep emphasizing it," Ye Zexi interrupted with an even deeper smile, his tone confident. "And we'll definitely advance."
Cui Yi wanted to argue further, but seeing Ye Zexi's demeanor, it was clear he was intent on protecting Tang Jing. Reluctant to fall out with him, Cui Yi swallowed his pride.
Fuming inwardly, Cui Yi glared at Tang Jing one last time before storming off, face pale with anger.
It wasn't until Cui Yi was far away that Yu Yan scoffed. "Let him be smug!"
The group's tension lifted, and everyone visibly relaxed. Tang Jing, too, seemed to have steadied his emotions.
As Tang Jing glanced at Ye Zexi, who was now smiling faintly, a flicker of emotion stirred within him. The man before him was nothing like the one who had once clung to him relentlessly.
