The next day, filming for the third episode of 'The Food Journal' officially began.
The identity of the special guest remained a secret before filming started. However, the production team had no idea that the day before, Yu Yan and Jiang Ran were recognized by fans while eating noodles at a mall. As a result, the four regular guests already knew who the special guests were ahead of time.
During team selection, Wei Bei was the first to speak, "Well, there's nothing to discuss. Let's keep the same teams as last time. After all, the new guests are teammates, so they'll probably work well together and aren't really keen to team up with us."
Yu Yan blinked. "Really?"
You Jia joked, "Yep, we regulars are all exclusive. Right, Zexi?"
Ye Zexi shrugged, "I don't really care..."
"How about pairing He Jinyun with Jiang Ran?" You Jia suggested.
Ye Zexi immediately changed his tune. "We're very exclusive! The new guests should team up, and we'll stick with the old pairings!"
He Jinyun couldn't help but laugh out loud. "Pfft."
The others burst into laughter as well.
Yu Yan teased, "You sure changed your mind quickly!"
Despite the banter, the teams were set. The director sighed upon seeing the same familiar groups yet again.
"Looks like we'll need to enforce a random drawing system for the next episode," the director said wistfully.
The assistant director nodded in agreement. If they let the guests choose freely, they could stick with the same groups for the entire season.
While the guests were happy, the lack of variety made it hard for the editing team to craft interesting show dynamics. They didn't want to make things too difficult, but they also needed fresh content!
Once the teams were finalized, it was time for breakfast.
"Is there a hidden mission today?" You Jia asked.
Yu Yan and Jiang Ran had come prepared. They had watched the first episode of 'The Food Journal', so they were well aware of the production team's sneaky tricks. After hearing You Jia's question, Yu Yan and Jiang Ran exchanged glances and began inspecting the tableware in front of them.
Seeing this, Wei Bei remarked, "I didn't expect you young ones to catch on to the show's routines so quickly."
Jiang Ran nodded seriously, "Since the penalty for losing is either no food or cooking for yourself, and the best we can manage is instant noodles, we have to stay sharp."
Yu Yan agreed, "It's not that we want to take this seriously—it's that if we don't, we won't get to eat."
But after searching for a while and finding nothing suspicious, they exchanged confused looks.
Noticing their perplexed expressions, Ye Zexi couldn't resist saying, "The production team rarely repeats the same trick. If the first episode had breakfast traps, they won't do the same thing again. You can relax and just eat."
"Really?" Yu Yan asked, feeling relieved. "Then I'll enjoy my meal!"
Jiang Ran, also reassured, finally started eating.
But as soon as Jiang Ran picked up his chopsticks, an eerie background music began playing.
The guests were all taken aback. You Jia even jumped in fright at the spooky music.
"What's happening?" You Jia asked.
Jiang Ran quickly put his chopsticks down, panicking, "No way! I just started eating breakfast, and the production team is already messing with us?"
