On the day he received the script, Ye Zexi stayed up late to finish reading it.
The movie was titled 'After the Rain'. After finishing the script, Ye Zexi lay on his bed, staring into space for a while before reaching for a tissue to wipe his tears.
He woke up He Jinyun with the sound, who opened his eyes to see Ye Zexi dabbing at his eyes with a tissue.
Surprised at first, He Jinyun quickly sat up in alarm, grabbing Ye Zexi's hand. "Zexi, why are you crying?"
Ye Zexi hadn't expected that such a small action would wake He Jinyun. He glared at him with reddened eyes and complained, "It's all your fault!"
He Jinyun was genuinely startled, and although he didn't know the reason, he pulled Ye Zexi into his arms. His fingers gently brushed the tears from the corners of Ye Zexi's eyes as he whispered, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault."
Ye Zexi was speechless.
This man didn't even ask why before apologizing.
Though amused, Ye Zexi mostly felt a warm, sweet sensation rising in his chest.
"You..." Ye Zexi mumbled softly, but before he could finish, he sighed and said, "Forget it. Let's not talk about it."
He Jinyun lowered his head to look at him. "Hmm?"
Realizing Ye Zexi had cried over the script, He Jinyun let out a breath of relief, finding the situation somewhat funny.
"You're laughing!" Ye Zexi huffed unhappily, shooting him a glance. "It really is your fault! Every time you write a script, it's either heartbreak or heartbreak. The audience loves you way too much!"
He Jinyun chuckled. "So, you don't like it?"
"How could I not like it?" Ye Zexi turned around and straddled He Jinyun's lap, grabbing his collar before leaning in for a kiss. "If I said I didn't like it, would you replace the second male lead immediately? Hmm, Director?"
He Jinyun's gaze lingered on Ye Zexi's flushed lips. His Adam's apple bobbed as he bent down to plant a light kiss before replying, "No. This time, you're the lead."
Ye Zexi froze, staring at He Jinyun in surprise. "What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said," He Jinyun smiled. "This time, I'm just the director."
Now Ye Zexi was genuinely astonished.
After a brief pause, he understood. It seemed He Jinyun had been planning to move behind the camera for some time, but Ye Zexi hadn't expected that day to come so soon.
After thinking for a moment, Ye Zexi asked, "So, will you still act in the future?"
He Jinyun answered without hesitation, "Yes. I love acting more than anyone."
"Then why not act this time?" Ye Zexi furrowed his brows, a sudden bold idea flashing in his mind. "Don't tell me you gave me the lead because you want me to win an award?"
He Jinyun's eyes sparkled with amusement—his Zexi was more perceptive than he'd anticipated.
He Jinyun had no intention of hiding it, so he nodded. But he also explained his intentions: "It's not just that. I also want to win Best Director."
Ye Zexi's brows remained furrowed.
He wanted to tell He Jinyun that winning Best Actor didn't matter much to him—he had already won that award before.
But faced with this version of He Jinyun, Ye Zexi didn't know how to convince him otherwise.
After all, He Jinyun wasn't lacking in Best Actor awards either.
