Kai's POV
Realising I was late for work, yet again, I grabbed my watch and phone, and raced down the many stairs in my apartment block. God, I wish the elevator still worked. After Briefly stopping to grab a Twix bar from the vending machine in the foyer - that would have to do for my breakfast - I ran down through the park. The bright spring flowers did little to cheer my mood, as pretty as they were. I knew my captain was sick of me being late, and was sure to fire me soon. I couldn't lose this job; it was all I had. I'd never get another job, not after being kicked out of Harvard.I rushed out of the park, and crossed the road, narrowly avoiding getting hit by some flashy Lamborghini that I could only dream of owning, before running into the alleyway. I slowed down in the alleyway - I never felt comfortable walking down there. But it was quicker, and if it meant I didn't get fired - well, it was worth it.
Unknown animals scuttled around my feet and up the walls. I jumped sideways as a cat erupted out of a pile of dead leaves. A finger of mist started to wind it's way around my feet.
"Pull yourself together Kai." I muttered to myself. I walked past a dumpster, and a few steps later I heard a whisper in my ear.
"Shhh..."
I froze.Katana's POV
I had been watching Kai for days. It was finally time to strike. As I watched him cross the street, the sun gleaming on his messy hair, a sea of anger washed over me. He had tried to mess with my family. Now I was going to mess with his life.
A week ago, my brother, Dante, had murdered the Brownson's. Annoying couple, they weren't missed. But the Brownson's had tried to uncover our organisation. Tried to expose our family. So, naturally, we had... Prevented that. We committed the perfect crime. Not a single shred of evidence, no way it could be traced back to us. I was still confident our plan had worked, but Kai had gotten a little too close for my liking.
The loud screech, from outside, of a car going too fast pulled me from my thoughts. Peering through the grimy window, I saw Kai taking his usual route to work, late as usual, just as I planned. Out of the apartment, through the park, across the road, and down the alley way to the police precinct. Opening the latch on the window, I slid out and scaled the side of the hotel I was staying in, before landing behind the dumpster. I snuck along the wall, keeping my back to the wall, hand on the knife concealed in my pocket. I rounded the corner into the alleyway that Kai was about to walk through. Pulling my knife out, I snuck behind another dumpster, and waited for Kai to walk past like a bear walking into a trap. 7 minutes passed, and eventually I heard footsteps. I waited, hidden in the shadows until he had passed, before sneaking up to him and putting my knife to his throat.
"Shhh..." I warned him. He stood in silence, not moving a muscle. "You got in the way of my family. Now I'm getting in your way." I wrapped a silk gag around his mouth.
"Make any noise and that's it for you and your sad little life," I whispered to him. I pulled out the needle I had in my pocket, carefully prepared for him. Carefully inserting it into his arm, I injected the drug, and watched him fall asleep in my arms. I slung him in the car I'd hidden outside the alley, and drove back to my apartment on the other side of town.
