Kai’s POV
I held a tissue down on Katana’s mother’s cuts, trying to stop the bleeding. I looked up at her face, and saw her eyes fluttering closed – she was beginning to lose consciousness. I tried to hold her up, but it was too late, and I instead laid her on the floor, and carried on dressing her wounds.
I thought back over the last few hours. All of Katana’s happiness from earlier in the garden had gone. Understandably. When I was walking back inside, I had heard the sounds of a struggle from behind a door, and I had immediately burst through. To my horror, I saw Katana on the floor, pinned down by Dante. I nearly screamed, and without thinking, I leapt onto Dante. The shock had knocked him off of Katana, and, after she had freed her mother, we ran.
Katana’s mother was a kind, cheery woman, nothing like her daughter. As she tried to make excuses for Dante, I saw the frustration in Katana’s face. This was clearly something that happened often.
Katana looked so worried when she realised Bianca and Valentina were in danger. She hadn’t talked about them much before, but she clearly cared for them. A lot.
I heard footsteps, and instinctively moved in front of Katana’s mother. Yelena walked down the hallway, and her face brightened as she saw me.
“Kai! Wait, what happened? Mom?” She quickly knelt down next to her mother, and felt for a pulse. She breathed a small sigh of relief as she found it, before looking up to me.
“What happened? Where’s Kat?”
“Uh…” I took a deep breath. “Your mother is okay. We found her. Uh… Dante was hitting her. The cuts… It was Dante. Kat’s gone to find Bianca and Valentina. She’s worried Dante’s going to target them next.”
Yelena looked shocked, before her surprise turned to anger.
“I swear to fucking god, when I get my hands on that dick, I will end his-“ She was pulling out a gun, and I reached out to stop her.
“Yelena, calm down. The plan, remember? We can still carry on with it.” She still looked furious, and was still holding onto the gun.
“Why does it matter if I shoot him now or later? Because I will shoot him. For everything he’s done to my family.”
“Because we need to prove everything he’s done. I’ve been here long enough to know that everyone will take his side. We need to get that disc, and show it to everyone. Then, you can shoot away.”
She groaned, and put the gun away, before leaning on the wall. At that moment, Katana walked back down, followed by two younger girls, who I assumed were Bianca and Valentina. They looked around 16, and both had long blonde hair, one with black highlights and one with purple. Katana smiled as she saw Yelena, and gave her a quick hug.
“Bee and Val are safe. But we need a plan. Dante’s going to be coming for them. And us.” Yelena nodded.
“Kat, what’s happening? What are you on about?” One of the girls asked. Both of them looked extremely confused, and slightly scared, especially when they saw their mother on the floor. Both Katana and Yelena ignored them, and carried on brainstorming ideas.
“We need a safe house.”
“Where can we go? Dante has cameras pretty much everywhere.”
“We can’t stay here.” They both paused for a moment. Bianca and Valentina had started wandering off, and after seeing that Katana and Yelena weren’t paying attention, I followed them down the hallway. The heard me, and turned around.
“Are you Kai? The boy Kat’s fallen in love with?” They both had a slight look of disgust on their face. I smiled.
“Has she told you that?”
