Katana's POV
It had been years since I'd seen him, but he hadn't changed. Still the same broken nose, the same wrinkles around his scars, the same tufty grey hair, although there was less of it now. Still the same piercing blue eyes, so similar to mine.
I took a step back, nearly tripping over the chair behind me. Kai caught me before I fell to the floor, and I quickly jumped away from him. He took a step back from me, giving me space.
We both carried on watching the tape, even though I was still shaken up.
Robert went to sit down in the chair, whilst Dante stood opposite.
"What the hell, Robert? She's supposed to be dead. You said your guys were the best. So how come she's sat in her room, very alive?"
"You didn't tell me she's still young. And hot."
"So?"
"I want to continue with the marriage."
I froze, realising they were talking about me. A tear ran down my cheek, and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I stumbled backwards again, not taking my eyes from the screen. I looked at the date, and saw that it was from the night we were attacked by the Bratva. Dante... He was behind it all. I’d wondered… Thought about it… But… It couldn’t be true. Surely.
In the video, Dante leaned over the table, so he was just inches from Robert's face.
"Fine. As long as she's out of my way."
"Good. She'll make a good wife."
"I'll arrange a time for you to collect her. I'll message you the details." Then Dante smiled. It was a cold, evil smile that made me shiver.
"Katana will finally be gone."
The video ended, and there was a moment of silence before another video started. Dante and Robert were again in the interrogation room, but this time Dante was sat down, and Robert was stood in the corner of the room. Robert spoke first.
"Well? Where is she?"
"You said your guy was picking her up!"
"He was. But now he's dead. So thanks for that." Dante rolled his eyes.
"The agreement was that I would cause a distraction. Nothing more."
"Yeah. Well. The distraction didn't work, did it."
"May I remind you, calling the cops was your idea."
"I will get Katana. She's mine. Your father promised her to me. That doesn't end with his death. That little bitch will be mine. Got it?"
"Trust me, I want her gone as much as you want her. You'll get her, don't you worry. Plan for a wedding a month today. I'll get her ready for you by then." Robert and Dante both smiled, and the video ended.
I brought my hand up to my mouth, trying to stop myself from screaming and throwing up simultaneously.
"Katana." Kai took a step towards me, trying to comfort me. I shook my head, tears flowing down my face, and took a step back.
"Katana, I promise... Nothing will happen to you. I swear. We'll keep you safe. We are going to stop this marriage. I promise. You're safe Katana. You're safe with us." He kept speaking, slowly and calmly, and his words reassured me. I stood in the middle of the room, sobbing silently, whilst Kai calmed me down. The tears slowed, and although I was still terrified, my heard cleared a bit. I started to gulp in deep breaths, gasping for air.
After a few minutes, I sat down in the chair. I could finally think straight, and although I was still terrified, I almost began to believe Kai's words.
