Kai's POV
Katana took my hand, and I followed her through a maze of corridors. They all looked the same, and I was amazed at Katana's navigation. She lead me back towards her room. As we passed the room that Robert had been in, her hand tightened around mine, and I felt her nails digging into my skin.
I traced circles on her palm, following the inky snake tattoo curling around in a circle around her and up her fingers. She looked over at me, and I nodded, trying to give her some confidence.
Once we passed the door, I saw anger building up in her.
"God, I fucking hate Dante. My brother." She rolled her eyes.
"He turned me into... Some weak little girl. Just like Robert. He makes me feel helpless. And scared." With a scowl on her face, Katana pulled out her knife. I automatically flinched away, but thought nothing of it, until I saw Katana looking at me, almost crying.
"You still don't trust me." It wasn't a question. It was a fact.
She turned and started walking down the corridor.
I ran after her, trying to catch up with her.
"Katana, stop, I didn't... I didn't mean to..."
She stopped and turned around. She was crying, and I stepped forward to comfort her. She just shook her head.
"Kai. Of course you don't trust me. Why would you. You don't even know me," she muttered, before carrying on down the corridor.
"Katana. I do know you. I know that you tug your banana necklace whenever you're sad, or stressed, or nervous. I know that you have beautiful blue eyes, but when you look closer, they have flecks of gold in the middle. I know that you always try to cover your scars, even when you wear a crop top, you pull your leggings up to hide them." She looked uncomfortable at this, and I regretted saying it, but I carried on.
"I know that you're tough and scary, but you're also a 20 year old girl that loves plants and old books. I know that you love being in the Mafia, but also you want to just be a young woman in a Victorian romantic story. And most of all... Katana, I know that I love you. More than anything else in the world. I've only known you for a few months, but you are the most important person in my life, and... I can't imagine my life without you anymore."
She walked back up to me, and hugged me, before kissing the top of my head.
"I love you too Kai. And... Don't worry, I'm not going to stab you. I've kept you alive this long... What's the point in killing you now?" She laughed, and buried her face in my hair. I kissed her neck, and hugged her back.
"My stars have come back out. I can see my banana again," I whispered. She smiled at me, red blush creeping up her cheeks. “Where’s your necklace?” I asked, noticing it wasn’t dangling between her collarbones. She reached into her pocket, and pulled it out, the chain snapped and dangling from her hand.
“I told you that you pulled it when you got sad. Guess you got a bit too sad.” She nodded, and a sad smile appeared on her face. I gently took the necklace from her, and slid it into my pocket.
“I’ll fix it for you, me caaro.” She burst into laughter. “Not a good accent, I’m guessing?”
“It was beautiful, moi caro.” She paused. “We should go kill Dante." I nodded, and followed her down the corridor.
