Si Nian raised an eyebrow and asked, "Hmm? You got a haircut?"

Zhou Yue Shen:

Seeing the older man caught off guard, she couldn't help but smile to herself.

Zhou Yue Shen pressed his lips together, looking at her for a long while.

A trace of helplessness flickered in his dark eyes.

His voice was filled with a tender, lingering tone: "Nian Nian."

Si Nian blinked and added, "No wonder I thought you looked especially handsome today."

Zhou Yue Shen didn't respond, staring at her for a moment before shifting his gaze. He pursed his lips, reached down, and picked up the items from the ground to put them in the car's trunk.

His movements were somewhat sluggish.

Si Nian watched and laughed heartily, thinking that this old man was actually getting shy.

The kids, not understanding what was happening, followed along. The youngest asked, "Dad, did you get a haircut? I want to get a haircut too. Why didn't you take me with you?"

"Dad, your hair is so short already, do you still need to cut it?"

"If you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed."

The car was headed to Linjia Village.

The first time they came, they walked.

The second time, Zhou Yue Shen arrived on a motorcycle.

This time, Zhou Yue Shen was driving a car.

Others seemed to have moved on from one era to the next in just six months. Yet, they felt like they were standing still.

For a moment, they couldn't tell if the others were advancing too quickly or if they were just falling behind.

The car that Factory Director Zhou bought had been the talk of the area. It was a Santana, a symbol of wealth, and it wasn't uncommon for people to sneak a peek at it when it came through the village.

Though most villagers didn't know much about cars, they recognized the brand and understood its prestige.

Now, seeing Zhou Yue Shen drive this car to Si Nian's family home for the New Year was quite impressive.

A few days earlier, they had seen the Lin family adding bricks and tiles and cleaning up their home thoroughly, inside and out. The Lin family had always been among the poorest in the village, and during New Year's, they usually just bought a bit of meat to celebrate.

This year, however, they seemed to be on a mission to renovate their entire house.

Who wouldn't envy a bit?

Now, with Factory Director Zhou arriving at her home for the New Year in a new car, everyone's eyes were green with envy.
