He had just been promoted, so it was time to pay a proper visit to his former leader.
The retired Commander Jiang was said to be enjoying his old age at home.
It had been a while since he last visited.
Thinking of this, Fu Yang said, "Go buy some gifts; I'll personally visit Commander Jiang."
The guard responded with a "Yes."
At the Jiang household.
Little Jiang Jiu was eating his rice absentmindedly, his short legs swinging back and forth, completely out of it.
"Nai, what do you think my second brother had for dinner today? It smells so good; I can still smell it now."
"Nai, can I go play with my second brother after dinner?"
Jiang Grandma, watching TV, gave him a glance and said, "What time is it? They must have eaten and be getting ready for bed by now. You should finish your meal and go to bed too; it's not good to disturb them so late."
On the sofa, Grandpa Jiang, dressed in a Zhongshan suit and reading the newspaper, curiously adjusted his glasses. "Second brother? Which second brother?"
"Grandpa, you don't know—" Just as Jiang Jiu was about to introduce his newly sworn brother, the doorbell rang.
Interrupted, he pouted.
Grandma Jiang went to open the door, surprised. "Isn't this Little Yang? What brings you here?"
Fu Yang greeted politely, "Hello, Aunt Jiang. Is Commander Jiang home?"
Grandma Jiang said, "He's home, that old coot. He's here to see you."
Fu Yang twitched the corners of his mouth and walked inside with the gifts.
Commander Jiang looked at Fu Yang in surprise. "Little Yang? What brings you here?"
Fu Yang replied, "I just finished a mission and was passing by. I thought I'd stop by since you're retired and at home. How have you been lately, Commander?"
Commander Jiang smiled. "Not bad. I heard you got promoted recently? Congratulations, Little Yang."
Fu Yang replied, "You're too kind, Commander."
Meanwhile, Jiang Jiu, feeling neglected, huffed and stomped over with his bowl and chopsticks, interjecting, "Grandpa, Grandpa, I wasn't done talking yet!"
Grandpa Jiang chuckled affectionately. "Oh, right! What were you saying, little Jiu?"
Jiang Jiu pouted. "Hmph! Don't call me little Jiu anymore; it's so ugly! Call me Little Lao San."
Grandpa Jiang was taken aback. "Why's that, my good grandson?"
Jiang Jiu explained, "I swore brotherhood with my friends today. I have an older brother and a second brother, so I'm the third brother. That's why you should call me Little Lao San."
Hearing this, Grandma Jiang sighed, mentioning the new neighbors next door.
Grandpa Jiang was surprised but didn't think much of it. He quickly turned his attention back to Fu Yang.
Fu Yang and Commander Jiang chatted in the study on the second floor for a while. Seeing that it was getting late, he prepared to leave.
As he stepped out of the study, he suddenly noticed that the house next door was lit up.
The two houses were quite close together, and the bright lights from the neighbor's home were hard to ignore. He had visited the Jiang family a few times before, and the house next door had always been locked, seemingly abandoned since the previous occupants moved out years ago.
