"Did you hear that?" the principal snapped, feeling that Si Nian had shown grace and composure, while Director Li—who should have been setting an example—was acting embarrassingly petty. It was truly disgraceful.
Li Fenghua's face turned pale, and she quietly muttered that she understood.
Inside, though, she was seething with rage, nearly to the point of exploding. But she didn't dare say anything, forcing herself to swallow her anger.
She felt her illness nearly flaring up again from the stress. That wretched Si Nian—how had things turned out this way? The assistant director and the principal were both siding with her. It must be because she's pretty, using her looks to seduce people!
Li Fenghua swore that once everyone knew the truth about Si Nian, no one would support her anymore.
...
In Class 4A.
"Hey! My mom told me to give you this candy and tell you not to be mad anymore."
Round-faced "Chubby Dun" finally had a chance during recess. Seeing Zhou Zedong still scribbling away at his desk, she couldn't understand why anyone would enjoy writing so much.
Hesitating, she placed a packet of White Rabbit milk candies on his desk.
Zhou Zedong ignored her. In class, aside from attending lessons and using the bathroom, he never played during breaks. If he had free time, he would read or do his homework. This way, he could get more done when he got home.
He didn't like the other kids in his class either. They were always chattering, jumping around, making noise without any clear purpose. He couldn't understand them. Nor did he want to.
All he knew was that he didn't want to become like them.
Seeing that he ignored her again, Yuan Yuan felt like pulling her hair out. She couldn't understand how anyone could be this strange.
Any other classmate would have gladly accepted the candy she offered with a smile. But this boy didn't even glance at it. He acted like an adult. Was he even a child?
Yuan Yuan scratched her head in frustration. Remembering what her mom had told her, she pushed the candy toward him again—this time using her pencil. She didn't dare get too close, fearing her grumpy seatmate might get mad at her again.
Yesterday, the way he had acted had scared her too much.
Last night, she even had nightmares about it.
"Xiao Dong, I'll give you all my candy. Please don't be mad anymore! I promise I won't take your food again," she pleaded, pointing at the candy. "Look, it's White Rabbit milk candy. It's really delicious, I swear! My sister wanted some, but I didn't give her any."
"My mom said we're desk mates and should get along and be good friends. This is my sincere gesture," Yuan Yuan stumbled through her words, even she didn't quite understand what she was saying.
Zhou Zedong paused, finally willing to stop writing and tilted his head to take a look.
A small bag of White Rabbit milk candies.
"I'll accept the candy," he said, reaching out to take it. "But you can take your good intentions back."
Yuan Yuan: "..."
...
It seemed that the principal's warning had some effect. For several days, Li Fenghua and her assistant, Li Fengxian, avoided Si Nian altogether.
As a result, Si Nian's image among the other teachers rose significantly.
Si Nian didn't mind, though. Her classes were relatively easy; the main subjects were mostly in the morning, with very few lessons in the afternoon.
