Zhou Yueshen noticed two visitors coming over that day. Although Si Nian didn't say anything, he had a general idea of what was going on.
He didn't press her for details; instead, he simply told Si Nian, "If you don't want to do it, then don't. It's okay if you don't want to be a teacher. I'll support you in whatever else you choose."
"Plus, you're taking the college entrance exams this year. You could use this time to stay home and study."
Si Nian, while applying ointment to her body, shook her head and said, "No, I can't. I've already signed a contract. If they want me to leave, they'll have to compensate me, but if I walk away, it'll be my own problem."
Standing nearby and helping Yaoyao into her pajamas, Zhou Yueshen listened and agreed that she had a point. After dressing the little girl, he took her to the bathroom, saying, "Alright, you get some rest. I'll take Yaoyao to her room."
He took Yaoyao to her own children's room, where he had set up a small bed for her following Si Nian's suggestion. The bed had rails on all sides to prevent her from falling out during the night.
Since the rooms were close, and the door was left open, they could easily hear if the little one cried during the night.
Before bed, Si Nian wouldn't let Yaoyao drink water or eat any fruit so that she could sleep through the night without wetting the bed. Of course, there were occasional accidents, so Zhou Yueshen had placed a plastic sheet under the bedspread, making it easier to just wash the sheets.
When he returned to the room, Si Nian had finished applying her ointment. She was sitting with her back to him, combing through her long, shiny black hair. Under the light, her hair shimmered with a soft halo, smooth and silky, making it irresistible to admire.
Ever since she entered the world of the novel, Si Nian had been taking great care of herself. The body that originally belonged to the novel's character was now even more refined under her care. Even after spending half a year in the countryside, her skin hadn't tanned.
Zhou Yueshen watched her for a moment before heading to the bathroom for a shower. The more delicate she appeared, the rougher he felt in comparison. He used to be the kind of man who would finish a quick shower in ten minutes, but tonight, he spent a full twenty minutes washing up.
When he emerged, shirtless, Si Nian was already lying down. Zhou Yueshen approached her and pulled her into his arms.
It turned out that no matter how many showers Zhou Yueshen took, his skin still felt rough. Hers, on the other hand, was smooth as milk.
His Adam's apple moved as he spoke in a low, husky voice, "Nian Nian, I'll be heading out for a few days."
Si Nian immediately looked at him. "Is it because of that letter?"
Zhou Yueshen gave a slight nod. "Yes."
He didn't elaborate further. Si Nian understood—his previous profession meant there were many things he couldn't share with her. She didn't ask any more questions. Although a bit worried, she simply said, "Alright, go ahead."
Zhou Yueshen had been unsure how to bring this up, fearing that she might not be happy about it. But to his surprise, she agreed so easily, leaving him momentarily speechless.
Si Nian added, "Of course, if you don't come back..."
"Hmm?" Zhou Yueshen lowered his gaze to look at her.
Si Nian smiled playfully. "Then I can start dating again!"
His expression instantly darkened. "Absolutely not."
