Chapter Thirteen - Nightmares and Bella Swan

NIGHTMARES filled Nova's night weeks following the big reveals to Carlisle. She had barely slept but she still trudged on - keeping herself busy. She had spent three days working on Bella's room for Charlie. She had opted to keep it cosy, she added Charlie's parent's old double bed, fairy lights twinkled across the headboard and Nova had found a couple of old bedding sets she didn't use mainly in lilacs and cream. She painted the walls white, keeping the cosy tone. Charlie had added a computer and phone line for her. The pair shared a beer at their completed hard work the day before Bella was due to arrive. 

"So you and Cullen uh?" Charlie chuckled as they drove down to Port Angles, Charlie was slightly nervous, and he asked her to come with him to pick up Bella from the airport. Nova had chosen to wear black tights, a black skirt and a burgundy-coloured sweater, to keep out the fall chill. She finished her outfit with heeled boots and had her bag on her shoulder; her blonde hair swept to the side and braided. she had run out of her contacts, so she had to wear a pair of gold-framed glasses. "made it official?" Nova blushed softly 

"Yeah" the Brit replied "We did - I don't think Nurse Stanley is happy though" Nova commented with a shrug as she watched the view change. 

"Watch her yeah? She can be lethal when angry - especially when drinking..the number of times I've been to her house for a disturbance" Charlie warned 

"Why won't the hospital get rid of her?" Nova asked and Charlie sighed 

"The hospital is short-staffed and she is good at her job I guess" Charlie let out a shrug. He seemed to be fidgeting in his seat. 

"So erm how work?" he asked making conversation 

"Stressful" She replied honestly  "I managed to gain a bigger budget to hire more staff - I just haven't found the right ones yet, they just don't seem right for the role" Charlie hummed as he rolled to stop for a red light. "I mean Harry has been a huge help, the department is very lucky to have him"

"And you" Charlie replied "You know if you ever need a job - I can get ya one at the station" Nova giggled 

"Oh, I don't have the temperament to deal with drunks - I would honestly just shoot them"

Charlie chuckled "Anyway" he replied as the flow of traffic moved "How about we go down the range? let me see you in action- I am glad though you haven't used the firearm" 

"Sounds fun - but I promise you I have a terrible shot"Nova commented softly, Charlie chuckled as they joined the flow of traffic heading into the airport. The radio had been playing some new song and both Charlie and Nova winced at it before Charlie found a parking spot. The pair had gotten out and Nova followed the Police chief inside. The airport was warm keeping out the harsh fall weather. Nova could smell coffee and nudged Charlie as he peered at the arrivals boards.

"I'm just gonna -" He nodded as she pointed to the cafe "Want anything?"

"Black coffee please" the officer stated as he read the screens Nova hummed and nodded making her way to the line. It wasn't long before she had moved to place her and Charlie's order. Luckily they wrote her name on the cups as she needed the ladies' room.  Once she had done her business, made sure her skirt covered her ass and was not tucked in her tights; she washed her hands and rebraided her hair before heading back to the coffee counter where hers and Charlie's cups were waiting, leaving she headed toward the exit as she didn't see Charlie at the arrivals board so she assumed he'd want her to wait by the cruiser.

"Hey, Nov" She turned to see Charlie heading her way, in his hand was a bag and a nervous-looking teenager was behind him. Her pale face and confused brown eyes looked her up and down. Nova smiled brightly at the teen while handing Charlie's coffee in his free hand "Nov, this is Bella, might daughter."
