Setting: Slums of Japan - Afternoon

The air is thick with the scent of food as Suzuki walks through the slums, carrying bags filled with donated food. The area is rundown, but it’s lively, with people gathering to receive the donations. Suzuki feels a sense of purpose in helping out here. As he makes his way to a distribution point, his eyes land on a familiar face—Yomi, known for her obsession with frugality and love for bean sprouts.

Yomi is at one of the tables, cheerfully talking to the people as she distributes food. Her eyes light up when she spots Suzuki approaching. She waves enthusiastically and rushes over to greet him, her long blonde hair bouncing with each step.

Yomi: "Ah, you must be Suzuki! It’s so good to see you here!"

Suzuki offers a polite smile, handing over the bags of food.

Suzuki: "You're, Yomi, right? I figured I'd come by and help out."

Yomi beams at him, clearly pleased by his efforts to assist. But her expression quickly turns serious as she gestures toward the table behind her, which is piled high with bags of bean sprouts.

Yomi: "You know, Suzuki, I was just about to ask you something very important."

Suzuki raises an eyebrow, unsure of what she’s about to say. Yomi leans in a little closer, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Yomi: "Do you like bean sprouts?"

The question catches him off guard, but he quickly recovers. It’s no secret that Yomi has a deep affection for bean sprouts, considering them a symbol of living humbly and frugally. He doesn’t want to offend her, so he thinks for a moment before answering.

Suzuki: "I guess I’m fine with them. They’re not bad."

Yomi’s face lights up at his response, her hands clasping together in delight.

Yomi: "Wonderful! Bean sprouts are the food of the people, you know. They're nutritious, affordable, and you can cook them in so many ways! I always try to share them with everyone I meet."

Suzuki chuckles, appreciating her enthusiasm.

Suzuki: "I can see that. You really like them, huh?"

Yomi nods vigorously, her smile never fading.

Yomi: "Of course! They’re a reminder of the simple things in life. Even when things get tough, bean sprouts are always there to sustain you. I believe in living humbly and appreciating what you have, no matter how small."

Suzuki can’t help but admire Yomi’s perspective. Despite her circumstances, she finds joy in the simplest things and is always eager to help those in need. In a way, it reminds him of why he came to the slums in the first place—to give back and make a difference, no matter how small.

As they continue talking, Yomi offers him a bag of bean sprouts, her eyes hopeful.

Yomi: "Here, take this. You never know when you might need them! Besides, you said you were fine with them, right?"

Suzuki hesitates for a second, but then smiles and takes the bag.

Suzuki: "Thanks, Yomi. I’ll definitely put these to good use."

Yomi beams again, clearly satisfied that she’s converted another person to her love of bean sprouts.

Setting: End of Day

As the sun begins to set, Suzuki says his goodbyes to Yomi and the other volunteers. As he walks away, he glances down at the bag of bean sprouts in his hand, a small smile on his face. Today wasn’t just about donating food—it was about the connections he made and the values he learned along the way.
