Tay sighed, his tone growing softer yet still determined. "If those people lived, they would've done even more dangerous things. You know the police and others wouldn’t have stopped them."
New wiped his tears, his voice trembling as he asked, "So, you got your revenge. Then what? Did you leave the mafia world?"
Tay shook his head. "No, I didn’t."
New’s eyes widened, fear creeping into his voice again. "Then... does that mean you’re still in the mafia? And those people who attacked your house—they came to kill you?" His tears flowed even more freely now. "I don't want anything to happen to you, Tar. Please, stop being involved in the mafia."
Tay pulled New into his arms again, rubbing his back gently in an attempt to calm him. "New, shhh... listen to me first. I couldn’t just walk away. If I did, those monsters would continue hurting others. They killed my parents—they wouldn’t hesitate to kill more innocent people. I just wanted to stop them, and I did."
New clutched Tay’s shirt tightly, his voice shaky. "How many people have you killed, Tar?"
"They weren't people, New," Tay said quietly but firmly. "They were monsters hiding behind masks. Dangerous ghosts in human form."
New rested his head against Tay's shoulder, whispering, "Then you're the scariest ghost of them all..."
Tay smirked slightly, trying to lighten the moment. "Well, in that case, I'll give you a chance to kill this scary ghost. What do you say?"
New shook his head, wiping away more tears. "Stop saying things like that. I don’t want to hear about killing anymore. And I won't let you go anywhere dangerous again."
Tay cupped New’s face gently, locking eyes with him. "You’re not afraid of me, even after everything I’ve done?"
New’s voice softened as he replied, "No, I’ll never be afraid of you, Tar. No matter what you’ve done, I’m not scared. But I really don't want you to kill anyone else."
Tay sighed, brushing his thumb across New's cheek. "That’s not something I can promise, New. There’s still one more person I need to find. He’s been pushing my limits, sending men to attack my people."
New’s eyes filled with desperation. "Please, Tar. Report it to the police, or the CIB, detectives, or anyone who can help. Don’t do this alone."
Tay tilted his head, a small smile forming on his lips. "detectives…, CIB, they’ve been on my radar for a while now. They don’t move unless I tell them to."
New’s brows furrowed in confusion. "Wait… what do you mean? Are you saying that even law enforcement is paid off by the mafia? Doesn’t the government care?"
Tay chuckled softly. "Not exactly. I said I’m their boss… as the head of the CIB. You can call me a SBI, detective or mafia—either title works."
New's eyes widened in shock. "You're with the CIB?"
Tay nodded. "I studied and learned everything about the SBI? The man I told you about helped me a lot. I became the head of the SBI in Thailand, but no one knows—none of my people. Only my colleagues and that man."
New's voice trembled as he asked, "Who is this man you're talking about? Do I know him?"
Tay smiled softly. "You do. I'll give you a clue: I got into your house, and no one questioned me. They let me in without a second thought, even though they didn’t know my background. Your family wouldn’t let just anyone into your room without checking, and even your brother didn’t object to me staying with you, despite being so protective."
