As the doctor finished explaining the severity of the fracture, a nurse walked in, carrying a few supplies to prep Taylor's foot for a cast. Taylor, trying to absorb the news, watched as the nurse set everything up. The reality of having to slow down was sinking in. It wasn't just a sprain. She couldn't push through this. The show would have to stop, at least for a little while.
The nurse gave Taylor a warm, reassuring smile. "We're going to get you all set up with a cast, Ms. Swift. It'll stabilize your foot and help it heal properly."
Taylor nodded, her anxiety starting to mix with the throbbing pain that now seemed more real than ever. She glanced over at Tree, who stood beside her, her eyes filled with concern but also determination to make sure Taylor was taken care of.
"You'll be okay," Tree said softly, reaching out to give Taylor's arm a gentle squeeze. "This is just temporary. We'll get through it."
The nurse carefully lifted Taylor's foot, positioning it to keep as much pressure off the injured area as possible. "I'm going to apply some padding first. Let me know if anything feels uncomfortable."
Taylor winced slightly as the nurse started wrapping her foot in a soft layer of padding, the tenderness of the injury making every touch feel amplified. "It's fine," she said through gritted teeth, trying to focus on her breathing.
Tree watched closely, still standing by Taylor's side. "You've got this, Tay. Just a little longer."
Once the padding was in place, the nurse reached for the casting material, which felt cool as it was applied over the padding and molded to the shape of Taylor's foot. Taylor, feeling the snugness of the cast as it started to set, tried to relax. It wasn't the first time she'd been through something like this, but it was different now—being on tour, being in the middle of something so big.
"It'll take a few minutes to harden," the nurse explained. "Once it's solid, you won't be able to put any weight on it, but it'll keep everything stable."
Taylor sighed, glancing down at the forming cast. "Great, so I'm out of commission for a while."
Tree chuckled softly. "You've got people who will handle everything. This is your time to rest and heal."
The nurse finished up, giving Taylor's cast a final check to make sure everything was secure. "Alright, you're all set," she said, standing back with a satisfied smile. "You'll need crutches for now, and we'll go over the aftercare instructions before you leave."
Taylor looked up at Tree, feeling both grateful and frustrated. "Looks like I'll have to get used to this for a bit."
Tree smirked, helping Taylor adjust in her seat. "Hey, at least you'll have a cool story about how you broke your foot on stage like a rockstar."
Taylor let out a small laugh, despite the pain. "Yeah, that's one way to look at it." She wiggled her toes inside the cast slightly, already missing the freedom of movement. "Thanks for dragging me here, Tree."
Tree grinned. "It's what I'm here for. To make sure you don't walk on broken bones without realizing it."
As the two shared a quiet moment, Taylor couldn't help but think about the weeks ahead. It was going to be tough, but she wasn't alone—Tree, her team, and her fans would all be there with her through the recovery. And for now, that was enough.
