The sun filtered through the curtains of the Avengers Tower, casting a warm glow across the living room where two dads were quietly enjoying their morning coffee. Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes sat on the couch, exchanging easy banter, when a small, mischievous giggle echoed from the nursery.
"Uh-oh," Bucky said, smirking as he set his mug down. "Sounds like trouble."
Steve chuckled, shaking his head. "That's our cue. Come on, let's see what Loki's up to."
The two of them got up and made their way to the nursery. As they opened the door, they found Loki sitting in the middle of the floor, surrounded by a sea of colorful toys. He was wearing a tiny green onesie adorned with playful cartoon dragons, and his big blue eyes sparkled with mischief. A stuffed alligator was held tightly in his arms, its bright smile matching his own.
"Dada! Look!" Loki exclaimed, bouncing on his bottom, clearly proud of his little fortress of toys. "I built a castle!"
Steve knelt down beside him, a broad smile spreading across his face. "Wow, buddy! That's an amazing castle. Can I come in?"
Loki giggled and patted the spot next to him. "Yes! But you gotta be quiet! The dragons are sleeping!"
Bucky leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, trying to suppress a smile as he watched Steve carefully lower himself to the floor, matching Loki's energy. "What's the castle for, little prince?" Bucky asked, joining them on the floor.
"It's for the dragons! They need to rest before they go on an adventure," Loki replied, his voice full of excitement.
"An adventure? Can I come too?" Bucky asked, leaning closer. "I promise to be super quiet."
Loki's eyes sparkled with delight as he nodded vigorously. "Okay! But first, we need to get snacks for the dragons!"
With a dramatic flourish, Loki crawled over to a small play kitchen set and started rummaging through the toy food. "Here! Some broccoli and bananas!" He held up the plastic pieces with pride. "Dragons love these!"
Steve chuckled at Loki's imaginative play. "Perfect! Let's make sure they have the best feast ever." He reached over to grab a plush carrot from the pile, adding it to the mix.
Bucky watched with a fond smile, feeling his heart swell at the sight of his little family. "I think we need to make it extra special," he said, grabbing a toy cupcake. "Every dragon loves a cupcake for dessert."
Loki's face lit up. "Yes! Cupcakes!" He clapped his hands together, clearly thrilled by the idea.
Once the snack spread was ready, Loki carefully arranged the toys in front of him as if they were all seated at a banquet. He then sat cross-legged in front of them, looking up at his dads with a huge grin.
"Daddies, the dragons say thank you!" he said, his voice taking on an exaggerated, high-pitched tone as he pretended to be the dragons. "Thank you for the food, kind humans!"
Steve and Bucky couldn't help but laugh, thoroughly enjoying Loki's playful spirit. "You're welcome, mighty dragons!" Steve replied, doing his best to sound regal.
Just then, the room filled with the sound of thunder, rumbling ominously outside. Loki's giggle turned into a startled gasp, and his eyes widened in fear.
"Dada!" he squeaked, scooting closer to Steve.
Bucky was quick to respond, wrapping an arm around Loki and pulling him close. "It's okay, little one. Just thunder. It can't get you in your castle," he said softly, his voice steady.
"Thunder sounds scary!" Loki whimpered, burying his face against Bucky's shoulder.
Steve brushed his hand over Loki's back, offering reassurance. "It's just a storm, buddy. It's safe inside with us. We can pretend the thunder is the dragons playing in the sky, okay?"
Loki peeked up, curiosity replacing some of his fear. "Playing?" he asked, his voice small.
"Yep! They're just having a fun time up there," Bucky said, giving Loki a gentle squeeze. "And they want to make sure you're happy and safe in your castle."
With his dads' comforting presence, Loki started to relax again. "Okay," he whispered, a small smile returning to his face. "But they can't break my castle!"
"Not a chance!" Steve said, laughing. "Your castle is the strongest in all the realms."
Bucky leaned in closer, pretending to guard the fortress. "And I'll protect it with my life! Nothing can get in while I'm around."
Loki giggled again, feeling the warmth and love of his dads surrounding him. The thunder outside rumbled again, but this time it felt less threatening. With a burst of newfound confidence, he looked up at Steve and Bucky. "Can we go on an adventure after the thunder goes away?"
"Absolutely!" Steve replied enthusiastically. "We'll take our brave little prince on the best adventure ever."
With that, the three of them settled in together, surrounded by the castle of toys, sharing stories and laughter as the storm rumbled on outside. The thunder might have been loud, but the love within their little fortress was even louder.
