It was a familiar scene for Bruce Banner: late evening, the lights dimmed in the tower, and Tony Stark—regressed to his little headspace—running around like he had all the energy in the world. Bruce leaned against the doorway of Tony's room, arms crossed, watching the chaotic scene unfold.
"Tony, it's time for bed," Bruce said, his voice calm but firm, knowing that getting Little Tony to settle down was going to be a challenge. It always was. Bedtime had never been easy, even when Tony wasn't regressed. The man was notorious for pulling all-nighters, working in his lab until the early hours of the morning.
But now, in his little headspace, Tony still fought sleep just as hard—maybe even harder.
Tony, who was wearing his favorite Iron Man pajamas, glanced over at Bruce from where he was perched on the edge of the bed. His messy hair flopped into his eyes, and he shook his head with a cheeky grin. "Not sleepy, Brucey!" he declared before hopping off the bed and darting around the room.
Bruce let out a sigh, but a small smile tugged at his lips. "I know you don't feel sleepy, buddy, but you need your rest. How about we read a story first?" he offered, hoping to coax Tony into winding down.
Tony paused for a moment, considering the offer. "Only if it's about Iron Man!" he said, eyes wide with excitement.
Bruce chuckled softly. "Alright, I can tell you an Iron Man story, but after that, we have to go to sleep, okay?"
Tony gave a quick, enthusiastic nod and scurried back to the bed, climbing under the covers but not quite staying still. Bruce grabbed a nearby storybook, though he knew Tony wasn't going to care much for it. He sat down beside the bed, flipping through the pages, but instead of reading the story, he began to make one up on the spot.
"Once upon a time, there was a genius superhero named Iron Man, who saved the world every day. But one night, Iron Man was so sleepy that even his suit couldn't keep him awake..."
Tony giggled, wiggling under the covers. "Iron Man never gets sleepy!"
Bruce raised an eyebrow. "Oh, but this time, he was *super* sleepy. Even Jarvis told him, 'Sir, it's time for bed.' But Iron Man said, 'No way, I'm going to stay up and work!' And do you know what happened?"
Tony's giggles slowed, his curiosity piqued. "What?"
"Well, Iron Man stayed up so late that the next day, he couldn't even fly straight. He kept bumping into things, and Pepper told him he was going to be grounded if he didn't get some rest."
Tony gasped dramatically. "Grounded?!" His eyes were wide, like that was the worst possible fate Iron Man could ever face.
Bruce nodded, his expression serious. "Yep, grounded. So Iron Man finally listened and got some sleep, and when he woke up, he was ready to save the world again."
Tony's giggles faded, and he yawned, his little body finally starting to relax into the pillows. Bruce smiled, glad to see Tony winding down.
"See, even superheroes need sleep," Bruce said softly, pulling the blanket up to cover Tony's small frame. "And so do little geniuses like you."
Tony pouted a little, though his eyes were drooping. "But I don't wanna miss anything," he murmured, curling into the blanket.
Bruce sighed, brushing Tony's hair back gently. "You won't miss anything, buddy. I'll be right here, and tomorrow we can do all sorts of fun things. But first, you need to get some rest. It's okay to close your eyes for a bit."
Tony hesitated, his eyelids fluttering as he fought sleep. "Promise?" he whispered, his voice small and vulnerable.
Bruce's heart softened at the sight of him. "I promise, Tony. I'll be right here the whole time."
With that reassurance, Tony finally let out a long sigh and closed his eyes. Bruce stayed by his side, humming quietly as he watched the little boy finally start to drift off. It wasn't easy, but with patience and a little story about Iron Man, Bruce managed to get Tony to settle.
After a few minutes, Tony's breathing evened out, and Bruce smiled softly, standing up quietly so as not to disturb him. He glanced back at the peaceful little figure wrapped in the covers and whispered, "Sweet dreams, buddy."
Bruce knew tomorrow would likely bring another bedtime battle, but for now, he was just happy Tony was getting the rest he needed. And if it took a few more Iron Man stories, he'd be ready for that too.
