When they returned to the beach, Severus decided to take them into the ocean. He put them both in the arm bands and pool rings he had brought for them, and subtly changed them into their swimwear using magic (he did this for himself too), and then they all went in. They didn't go in very far, and Severus kept both boys within arms reach, making them peel with laughter when he gently bumped the pool rings together and said 'bumper cars'!
He did this, he reminded himself, because he was trying to replicate his good childhood memories with them, and not at all because he slightly enjoyed the sound of Harry's laughter.
Not at all.
Nope.
Totally didn't sound like a mini Lily.
And perhaps Dudley's laugh was sort of cute.
Perhaps.
When it wasn't caused by the suffering of others.
