Chapter 71

Thiago's POV

I heard movement and saw Oscar, Hulk and Bernard running towards me and Carlito. Hulk was carrying a wooden board with him.

"We didn't find anything else!" Oscar yelled through the thick rain as Hulk set the board on the ground.

"Gently!" I yelled. "We don't know what kind of injuries he has!"

We lifted him up carefully and placed him on the board as he kept moaning and whispering gibberish.

"Oh this is bad." Marina said when she saw us approaching. She was holding a candle she must have found somewhere and with relief I saw there was fire burning in the fireplace. "He needs to go to the hospital. He could die!"

She was right, I thought. The problem was that we had no way of contacting anyone. If we managed to get a call out then we could find a way to get him to a hospital, be it a jeep or even a helicopter!

We settled Carlito in one of the couches and Marina kneeled beside him.

"Do we have a first aid kit?" She asked and I saw blood on her hands.

Oscar and Bernard started going through the closets and drawers.

I tried to ration my breath. This can't be happening. This nightmare.

"I found one!" Bernard yelled and rushed to Marina's aid.

"Thiago... we need an ambulance! There's only so much I can do!" Marina approached me.

"I know. I know! But what would you have me do? I told you guys, don't go out there! Did you listen to me? NO!"

"You're right but we couldn't have known—"

"Hey, we have a map!" Oscar yelled as he fished out a map from one of the drawers. "Maybe we could find our way to another shelter or the parking lot!"

We spread the map in the table, trying to read it in the candle light.

"The closest shelter is to the north and the parking lot is to the east. Where to?" Bernard asked.

"We have to try everything we can." Marina said and everyone nodded.

"Okay." I started. "Let's split up. Bernard and I will head towards the parking lot and you guys," I turned to Hulk and Oscar, "you'll go to the other shelter. Fred and the others are there. And Marina... you do everything you can." I turned to her.

She nodded and I realized her face was wet with tears.

"Take the map with you." Hulk told us. "I remember the way."

"Thanks." Bernard said before giving a quick kiss to Marina and we all headed towards the door. I looked at my watch, it was a little after 4am. The sun would be out soon.

"Just be careful." Marina said, her voice barely audible.

Olivia's POV.

"This isn't so bad." I heard David say.

"Really? You like it?"

"Well it's not the best but we have our food, water, this picnic blanket. Some popcorn and the latest Game of Thrones season and we'd be set."

"Well if you want Game of Thrones I can make sure you meet the same end as Oberyn. Just say the word."

"Jeez Liv, lighten up."

"I'm trying, but the situation doesn't allow me to." I murmured. "When is this rain going to stop? It feels like hours."

"It will be morning soon. Hopefully with or without the rain we'll find the path again. I'm so ready to get out of here." David said before he sneezed loudly.
