The car came to a sudden halt and Olivia woke up.

"We're here." Her dad, announced looking at her and her brother through the rearview mirror. Michael made a disgruntled noise as he opened the door and got out without saying anything.

The four of them, mum, dad, Michael and Olivia headed towards their new house.

"It's looking good, right guys?" Mum asked.

Michael didn't say anything. He hadn't said anything the whole trip. Olivia just shrugged. She saw her mum look almost relieved at that.

Dad fished the new key out of his pocket and opened the door. Michael headed up the stairs quickly without sparing a second glance at the ground floor.

"Your room is the first door to the left Mikey." Mum yelled after him. "He's taken this so hard." She then said in a quieter voice.

Dad put his hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "He'll be fine. It's just an adjustment period."

"And you sweetie? Are you okay?" Her mother asked Liv.

In truth she was. Michael was a senior. He had to say goodbye to his friends and girlfriend a year before they had to graduate. Of course he was pissed off about it. But for Liv it wasn't that bad. Sure, she had friends she'd miss but it but no one she was too close to. The only thing that made her anxious was having to go to a new school where she knew no one.

But her father had gotten a new job which he liked better and which paid better. But commuting meant flying back and forth to spend the weekends with them. And he'd be too exhausted and they too busy to actually make that work. Her parents talked a lot before making the decision. But Michael would go to college in a year, so a bigger pay meant money for tuition too.

Michael understood. He knew his parents made the best, most logical decision. But that didn't mean he had to like it.

"Yeah mum, I'm fine." Olivia said. "The kitchen seems nice. Definitely an upgrade compared to our previous one."

At that her parents began examining the house and Olivia followed them around, barely listening to them. She looked around the house. It was spacious and even in the afternoon dimming light it seemed bright.

"I'm going out." She heard her brother say and turned around. He had changed to a white t-shirt and black sweat shorts and held his football in his hand.

Before anyone had a chance to reply he was gone.

"Let him go. He'll beat the ball around and cool off." Olivia's dad told her mum.

The three of them headed up to the first floor and Olivia finally saw her room. It was on the far end of the corridor to the left, next to her brother's. Like the rest of the house it was bigger than her previous room and Olivia was delighted to see it had a window seat.

"Bed's not here yet." Her dad said. "I'm hoping the rest of the furniture will be here tomorrow."

Olivia walked around her room trying to imagine what it would look like when she was done decorating it. She had already purchased Christmas lights to hang on the wall above her bed all year round and a few posters for the rest of the walls.

After they were done inspecting the house the three of them headed back to the car to unload the boxes they had brought with them. They were the most essential things, a few plates and glasses, some clothes and personal things for each of them.

"So we have plates and forks but we have no food." Her dad said while they unloaded the contents of the box named 'kitchen'.

"How about the two of you go out to get something for dinner while I take care of these?" Her mum appeared at the door.

"Sure." Olivia said glancing at her dad. Her mum always did that, she wanted to decide where to put everything and have the kitchen in order by herself.

It was a good day and the warmth of the sun that was now setting still lingered in the atmosphere so they decided to walk. A few blocks later they found an open dinner with a few customers inside and placed an order.

"It will be ready in 20 minutes." Her dad told her. "Let's go walk around the neighborhood."

It was a nice neighborhood. The streets were large and clean, small trees or flowers planted on either side of the road. The houses looked pretty and cared for.

"Hey is that a football field? Is that Michael?" Liv exclaimed.

As they headed closer they saw a grass football field with a high net fence around and Michael playing football with a bunch of other boys. He seemed to be having fun. So much for missing his friends and whining, Olivia thought.

"Hey Mikey!" Dad yelled for him.

When Michael saw them he approached quickly. "Hey guys!"

"How's the game?" Dad asked.

"Amazing! These guys are crazy! Most of them are in a local team playing in the 3rd division!"

Dad smiled, looking relieved that Michael was finally having a good time. "We are going to pick up dinner, are you hungry?" Dad asked.

"Yeah, yeah I'll be home in a little while." Michael said. "See you then."

"He sure adjusted easy." Liv told her dad when Michael left, looking at the guys who were playing. A tall guy with dark brown hair had just scored.

"You will too, sweetheart. Give it a little time."
