It was heavy. Overwhelming. The world felt like it was spinning over and over underneath your form. For a short moment, you swim in oblivion, feeling the tugging of consciousness fight with your exhausted body.
And then, you are awake. You are unseeing for quite a few horrid seconds, but you still sit up. The place shakes despite the fact you knew it wasn't. The bed you sat upon felt like it would swallow you into its depth and hold you in its clutches, to drag you deep and suffocate you.
Your head pounds and yet, one thing sticks out the most. An urge that screamed bloody murder at your subconscious mind over and over again. It screamed something, to get up and... and...
You are in overdrive, your body shaking in fear and anger and pain and so much more you could not decipher. It filled you with adrenaline that made your heart pound and your breath quicken and your muscles tense, ready for something. Something...
It takes far too long before your vision clears, before the room stops moving on its axis, and you heave in a breath, feeling nauseous and dizzy and so overwhelmed.
And it kept screaming at you. Something. Something. Something is in need of urgent action, a thing of which is important, but so out of your reach. It makes your head hurt, makes it feel as if your blood is burning through your veins, squeezing at the sides of your head. The back that throbbed with your heartbeat like some sort of sick melody was making you wince, making tears gather at the corners of your eyes as your hand sneaked to feathery touch the back of your head.
It sends agonizing pain into your being, spreading down your body to your toes, and you hiss, muscles tensing up.
It didn't matter, your mind yelled. This didn't matter, none of it does. Something else needs your attention, but first, you have to know why you were here to begin with. Nothing was making sense, everything was scattered everywhere inside your head, and just moving made you grunt and hiss at the pain and dizziness it brought.
Beside the point. This is beside the point.
With a pained whimper, you turn around to press the red button, calling a nurse in. They have to know, they have to know what happened to you. Do your siblings know you are here? Does anyone? A small part of your mind tells you something, whispers, and is muffled too badly you cannot comprehend much of anything.
Your body is tense as you wait, your eyes traveling to the window, listening to the silence. It's probably past midnight, the early black hours when the city finally gets a bit quiet, the few precious hours before sunrise.
Something is so horribly wrong. It gnaws at your mind like a ruthless animal. It does not quieten, the noise of it far too loud and yet too muffled.
The door to your room opens, the space lighting up with the fluorescent lights coming from the hallway. The nurse is a bit surprised as she turns on the lights much to your dismay, the damnable lighting making your eyes burn and itch.
You sit close to the edge of the bed, ready to just sit up and leave if it weren't for the IV hooked to you and whatever else they have put on your unconsciousness form.
A small part is anxious to know how long you have spent here—the pounding in your head suggests a bad injury.
The nurse goes to check on your pulse and the IV hooked to you, making sure everything is in place before she turns her attention to you.
"Alright," she begins, opening a file in her hands and holding the pencil. "Let's start with a few simple questions before anything else... can you tell me your name?"
