You go back home in a hurry for the simple reason of getting dressed better.
Your brother and Roxy wait in the car as you walk around the room, getting dressed into something you wouldn't mind getting dirty and, at the same time, something that would keep you both warm and protected somewhat. Jeans with sweatpants over them and a jacket were your best go-to combo.
Your eyes kept on wandering to the discarded blanket over your bed. You don't remember buying it, nor does it look like something you would buy, especially considering the fact you have enough blankets lying around. It would be a waste to get more.
Through the mirror you stood in front, you took it in. Light blue with clouds. Simple. Soft looking. Not much for keeping warm but more for comfort.
Your gaze falls back to your face. You try to look over the healing process of your nose, of when the dark bruises circling under your eyes would fade away. Of when sniffling would become painless.
A blur of yellow catches your wandering eyes, and you focus back on the reflection in the mirror.
Over your bed, the blanket is sat untouched. Sky blue and just waiting to be cuddled.
Over it sits a white and yellow plushie. A duck, perhaps, with odd flower petals that decorate its head. Beady eyes stare back at you and your mind takes a little too long to realize that that wasn't there before.
Slowly, you look back only to find nothing. You are alone in your room. In the whole house.
You are still as you blink once and twice, willing your mind not to play tricks on you. You'd rather not hallucinate things at this moment, panic aside.
And if it was an entity, then you hoped it wouldn't do anything to slow you down in your mission.
You can panic about this at a later date, and your mind agrees because you just feel numb towards something that probably would've raised blaring alarms in your head.
Creepy plushies will not stop you.
Turning, you grab for a metal baseball bat that you found in your closet while searching there. Its presence confuses you for a moment, but you feel thankful that you have found it regardless.
Not glancing back, you walk downstairs and into the backyard. It is very early in the morning, the sun has just began to rise. The perfect time to search.
You take the steering wheel this time while your brother sits to the side, Roxy at the back. His car is not something you'd want to drive, but you still pull on D and drive down the road.
The location is clear.
For once, you know where you're going.

The way is quite long. Your brother is silent. Roxanne too. She sits with her legs pulled apart and arms crossed, absolutely seeming ready to punch something (or someone) in the face.
Amelia and Max almost begged to come with, but Ellen (and you) have refused. You'd rather no one get hurt, and you would also rather neither Roxy nor Ellen be with you, but both are stubborn and you'd waste precious time trying to convince them otherwise.
Still... it felt good to have people helping you. People to lean on and have your back.
Even if that comes with the cost of you worrying.
Time passes. It is more tense by the minute.
The plushie keeps appearing everywhere.
Everywhere.
