Note: this chapter takes place in an alternate version of the Helluva Boss world where Hell is in a Shakespearean 1500s-1600s time period.
Enjoy!!

It was not common for a team of mercenaries to get in an invitation to a high-class ball, but the Immediate Murder Professionals were not a common team of mercenaries.
Maxwell Thomas, a fox demon, quietly hummed a tune to himself as he walked with his fellow mercenaries down the cobblestone streets. Beside him, the imp named Blitzo walked along with a grin on his face. Behind them, the imps named Moxxie and Millie walked hand in hand.
Millie called out to Blitzo. "Hey boss, if sleeping with a high-class prick gets us invited to a ball, I say you should sleep with a whole lot more."
Blitzo laughed. "Who knows, I might even meet some more tonight."
Maxwell and Moxxie just smiled as the group moved onward to the great hall where the ball was to be held.
------
To say that Maxwell was feeling overwhelmed at the ball would have been a slight understatement.
He hadn't expected there to be as many people as there were, but as he and his coworkers arrived at the ball he was immediately shocked by the huge mass of people dancing and mingling in the great hall.
As Blitzo went to find his rich lover and Moxxie and Millie went to dance, Maxwell plucked a drink off of a nearby server's tray and fled to one of the room's far walls.
Maxwell quietly sipped his drink, glancing around at all the demons that filled the great hall.
None of the demons he saw were particular interesting to him.
But then he saw the hellhound.
She was standing in a group of other demons, sipping wine and laughing. Maxwell refused to take his eyes off of her, instead opting to take in all of her beauty.
She was wearing a sleek black dress, the kind that Maxwell always saw in the windows of clothing stores with price tags attached to them that advertised outrageous prices.
Her light grey hair rolled in waves down her back, and Maxwell pictured running his fingers through it.
Her eyes sparkled when she laughed, and her smile made Maxwell's heart skip a beat. Suddenly, he knew that he wanted to walk over to her be the one to make her laugh, make her smile.
Satan, where the hell were these feelings coming from?
The hellhound waved goodbye to her friends and walked away to presumably find a server, judging by her empty wineglass.
Maxwell immediately pushed off of the wall. Now was his chance.

Author's note:
Here's another sneak peek from something new I'm working on!
I love the idea of there being a multiverse of Maxes and Loonas (a la Spiderverse), and the idea that two of them love each other in every timeline.
I had the idea to write a alternate version of their love story that shows them living in a 1500s-1600s version of Hell, and I think it's pretty fun so far to see these alternate versions of them.
One of the main inspirations for this oneshot, plus where it gets its name from, is the song "Dance Macabre" by Ghost. If you listen to the song (which I have placed above for your listening convenience), I think it gives you a pretty good idea of how this oneshot is gonna go. :)
I can't wait to finish this one and share the finished product with you guys!
I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek!
