Draco's POV
The meeting in the grand mansion this time came with a coldness I had never felt before. The meetings were the same as always: Voldemort at the head of the table, Nagini by his side, his followers seated on either side, and me with my family-my aunt, my father, and my mother. Voldemort looked at us all with an expression of anger, and I knew exactly why: they had lost the prophecy; and not only that, but it was my father who was responsible for it because it was he who let it slip from his hands, shattering into pieces. I knew how much Voldemort could rage against my father, who had gone from being his most loyal follower to a complete failure in the span of one night. I was deeply concerned about what he might do to us for that mistake..."Lucius," he began, "I thought I had been clear when I said I would not tolerate mistakes... Can you explain to me what happened last night?" he said with an evil smile on his face.
"My lord," my father replied, standing up, "things at the Ministry became... difficult. Young Potter and his friends were there..."
"Of course they would be there, Lucius; that was exactly what I warned you about before going, to be careful because Potter wouldn't go alone, and yet you had the audacity to fail!" he said, slamming his hand on the table. "And, unfortunately for you, our new acquisition ended up badly injured when I explicitly asked you to protect her. Do you have any idea what that young woman could do for us? And you have the audacity to don't protect her? Am I not clear when I speak?"
How could he refer to her as a new acquisition and nothing more?
"My lord," Bellatrix interrupted, "she fought bravely. It was Sirius Black who hurt her, but don't worry, I've taken care of the traitor..." she said, lowering her voice as she smiled. "Don't worry, Draco," she said, turning to me, "Sirius Black has gotten what he deserved for touching your little girlfriend."
I understood what Bellatrix meant by taking care of Sirius Black. I couldn't deny I was happy he got what was coming to him, but I couldn't stop wondering if Ángeles had seen it, if she had seen someone die... I couldn't respond to Bellatrix because I knew that any word I tried to say would reveal my vulnerability at that moment. No one but me knew how hard it was for me to keep my composure in front of Voldemort in my house again, no matter how many times he had already been there.
"How is she?" Voldemort asked with curiosity.
"She is recovering well, my lord," my father said. "Narcissa has taken care of her. At the rate she's going, she'll be ready at any moment."
Ready? Ready for what? To continue risking her life?
"Oh, I have no doubt she will be ready. I felt all her power that night, and it was... indescribable. Ángeles has great potential, but that's not news, is it? After all, she carries the lineage of the Rasmüssen... I'm sure that with proper training, she will be even more useful," he said with a smile.
"My lord," I interrupted, trembling, "I... she almost died that night. Don't you think risking her would be counterproductive?"
Voldemort tilted his head, smiling as he approached where I was sitting.
"Draco!" my father shouted. "Are you questioning the Dark Lord's decisions? I thought we had already talked about..."
"Shh," Voldemort said, gesturing for my father to be quiet. "Lucius, don't be so hard on your son... It's understandable that he is confused, isn't it, Draco?" he said, placing his hands on my shoulders from behind me. "Draco is still a young boy after all, and the charms of such a powerful young lady could cloud the judgment of any young man, even someone like you, Draco," I could feel him smiling.
