trigger warning: smoking, stealing, domestic abuse (backhanding), mostly verbal argument between father and daughter, but there is some physical altercation.
please only read if you won't be triggered by that. :( <3
note: this chapter is all a flashback, and was referenced to in the mini-flashback during chapter 7. during that one, it talked about "the first time" hitomi really stood up to housei, but it didn't go into that occurrence.
this is that occurrence.

┕━━━☽【☹︎】☾━━━┙SHE RAN DOWN THE HALLS like a bat out of Hell. Her panicked sprinting was easily heard by the downstairs neighbors, but they knew to turn a blind eye.
Hitomi could hear the heart stopping, heavyset footsteps hot on her tail. And she knew she poked the bear, now came the time to pay for it.
It had been a frigid October night that Tomi'd been out alone, loitering in church parking lots and seven-elevens to kill time.
It was purposeful, not rushing to arrive at the penthouse; the fifteen year old hated it there. So much so, that she considered sleeping on the streets of New York.
She didn't— her only American friend strongly advised against it and for good reason, but she wanted to. Especially knowing what was waiting for her at home.
Hitomi walked down the lonesome streets on her way to the pricey apartment, which was all presumably funded by her father's oh-so-impressive surgeon money.
She rolled her bloodshot eyes, tightening her bruised fists that rested in her coat pockets. She hated— no, she loathed him. The spiteful girl had cursed him everyday for the last two (going on three) years.
He had fought in court for her, followed by dragging her to America with him, and for what?
To make her even more miserable after losing her only sister tragically? To make her even more depressed after her parents divorced, by leaving her innocent mom? To make her feel more alone by ripping her away from the only sibling she had left, along with her best friend?
What did he want from her? Hitomi begged for an answer to that question countless times, but his answer was never the truth. She could tell his pathetic excuses were all lies.
