ANW CHAPTER 12 "Do you want to kill yourself?"

Next morning Zayn is still laying on the ground. Tyler, Adrian and Candice are standing around him.
Candice: Has he been sleeping outside all night?
Tyler: I think so. He fell asleep when I had my shift.
The door of the building opens and Ryan pokes his head out. They look up at him. Ryan walks out towards them.
Ryan: Um, goodmorning. I was wondering if I could talk to you, Adrian?
They are quiet.
Adrian: Yeah, sure.

Adrian and Ryan are standing in the corner of Greenville.
Adrian: So?
Adrian is looking wondering with his arms crossed.
Ryan: So, we were wondering if we could stay here. We know you said only one day, but you don't know how horrible it is to live out there. This is the best few hours we've had since everything started. We normally have like 3 hours of sleep a night and only eat expired food. Please, we can't go out there we won't survive that.
Adrian is thinking for a second.
Adrian: Well, I don't want you to go out there either, but it's not only my choice. We don't know anything about you guys. I'll do my best, but I can't promise anything.
Ryan: Thank you, we really appreciate that.

Zayn wakes up. He yawns. Candice is sitting on his right and Tyler on his left.
Zayn: Uh, good morning.
Candice: Have you slept all night on the ground?
Zayn looks around.
Zayn: I guess so.
Candice: Why?
Zayn: I fell asleep.
Candice: Outside?
Zayn: What is this? An interview?
Tyler walks over to Adrian.
Tyler: Hey, I thought maybe we should get some supplies for when the winter comes.
Adrian: Yeah we should do that. But first we should discuss if the other groups stays or not. What are you thinking?
Tyler looks over at Zayn.
Tyler: I guess stay. But if it gets winter we will need to sleep in the building with eleven people.
Adrian: Yeah, but we can't drop them outside when winter comes. They won't survive that.
Tyler: Yeah alright.
Adrian: Let's get everyone together.

Everyone is sitting around the campfire. The other group is still inside the building. Alex is looking mad.
Jason: You really want them to stay?
Tyler: I mean, the more help the better right?
Adrian: And we can't just leave them out there.
Jessie: I don't know. How do we know if they are telling the truth? Maybe they belong to the other group.
Adrian: Yeah, but they would only be able to contact the other group if they are out there right? So if they stay here, they wouldn't be able to contact their group.
Jessie: Well, I guess.
Zayn: I think they should stay. We can't just throw them out. They don't have any food out there, no place to sleep, they aren't safe there.
Candice: Zayn is right, it is already hard for us to survive here let alone outside these fences.
Zayn: I think we should vote.
Adrian: Yeah good idea. So, put your hand up if you want them to stay.
Everyone except Alex and Jason puts their hand up.
Adrian: Now put your hand up if you want them to go.
Only Alex and Jason put their hands up.
Alex looks angry.
Adrian: It's pretty clear then. So for today we're getting supplies for when the winter is coming. Anyone who volunteers to come?
Alex: I'll come, I've been in this place for too long.
Adrian: Alright, anyone else?
No one answers.
Adrian: I'll go myself but I think at least 2 other people should come. And I'm not going to ask that other group yet.
Candice: I'll go...
Adrian: Good. Uhm...Tyler could you go with us too?
Tyler looks irritated and crosses his arms.
Tyler: Fine.
Adrian: Great, let's get ready.

Zayn is still sitting at the fire yawning. Alex is packing her bag. Jason is talking to Tyler who is packing his bag.
Jason: Hey.
Tyler doesn't make eye contact with Jason.
Tyler: Hey.
Jason: So...
Tyler: So what?
Jason: I'm just trying to find a subject to talk about.
Tyler: Why would you want to talk to me? We're not friends.
Jason: I know, but it's just that...
Jason looks silently at the ground.
Tyler: Can't what? Finish your sentences you dickhead.
Jason: I just can't have any friends...
Tyler looks at Jason confused and irritated.
Tyler: What? What are you talking about?
Jason looks quietly at Tyler.
Adrian announces: Come on everyone we need to go!
Jason is still silent and looks at the ground.
Tyler: You know what? Don't tell me. If we aren't friends, why should I care?
Tyler makes his way to the car, leaving Jason speechless. Adrian is filling the car with gas while Candice is throwing their bags in the back.
Alex: Is everyone ready?
Alex looks at Zayn who is sitting at the campfire. He is not paying attention to them. The other group is still inside the building and the rest is standing at the gate. Adrian gets into the drivers seat. Candice sits next to him and Alex and Tyler get into the back of the car. Tyler smiles at her.
Tyler: Hey.
Alex looks uninterested.
Alex: Hi.
Tyler looks at Jason. Jason and Jessie are waving goodbye. Jason waves at Tyler, but Tyler looks away acting like he didn't see. Adrian drives off with them.
