ANW CHAPTER 17 "Hello. My name is Levi."

It's morning. Jason is the first to come out of his room. He walks to the door and sees it's been locked with a rope. He tries to get the knot out. His hands are shaking a little bit, but it's less severe then yesterday. He sighs. Eventually he gets the knot out and goes outside. He sits under the sail. The fence is still down. He sees some freaks inside the forest. Then Ruby walks out of the building. She yawns and sees Jason sitting outside.
Ruby: Oh, hi.
Jason: Hey.
Ruby sits down next to him. Jason looks a little confused that she came to sit next to him. The freaks from the forest come closer. Jason wants to get up to kill them. Then Ruby stands up.
Ruby: I'll do it.
Jason: You sure?
Ruby: I've been longer in the forest then you and I have better skills.
Jason laughs.
Jason: Okay show me.
Jason sits down again. Ruby walks over to the fence where the freaks are. There are 3 of them. She takes out a knife. She is standing steady and with her hands in front of her. The first freak comes up to her and she pulls its upper arm and stabs it's head with a knife. It falls down. She easily does the same with the other ones. She proudly walks back to Jason.
Jason: I'm impressed.
Ruby: You should've had high expectations of me in the first place.
Jason laughs.
Jason: Alright then.
Jason puts his hand on his knee. It's shaking a little and he looks at Ruby to see her reaction. She looks a little confused.
Ruby: What's with ur hand?
Jason: I have tremors. I get it sometimes because of my sleeping meds.
Ruby: That sucks.
Jason: Yeah...
Jason looks embarrassed.
Ruby: Anyways, I'm going to make some breakfast. You want some?
Jason looks confused at her not caring.
Jason: Yeah.
Ruby walks into the building. She comes back with some energy bars. She throws one to Jason. Jason looks displeased.
Jason: What's this?
Ruby: Energy bars.
Jason takes a bite.
Jason: You can't even call this food.
Ruby scoffs.
Ruby: Be happy you have food to eat.
Jason: I'm just used to better food.
Ruby: Were you someone who'd wipe their ass with money?
Jason: Sorta. I was rich, but it's not like I gave shit about the money. But the food was always made by chefs and rooms always cleaned by maids.
Ruby: Must've been one of the popular guys.
Jason: The opposite. People were just scared of me.
Ruby: Scared?
Jason: Yeah, I uh, got into a lot of fights. And had some problems with teachers too.
Ruby: Oh.
Jason: How was school for you?
Ruby: I was friends with Katy before it all started. And we were just kind of together most of the time. I didn't like most people and most people didn't like Katy.
Jason: At least you had each other, not like I needed someone.
Ruby: Everyone needs someone, even if it's just one person.
Then Adrian comes out of the building.
Adrian: Morning.
He walks up to them.
Jason: Morning.
Ruby: Morning.
Adrian sits with them. He looks at the fence.
Ruby: I can't believe Ryan got drunk last night. He is such an idiot.
Adrian: We got to fix the fence today. We can't let more freaks get in here.
Jason: Does that mean we won't go on a run today?
Adrian: We can, just not everyone. I guess I'll stay here and keep an eye on Ryan and Chris.
Jason: Can I go?
Adrian: Sure.
More people come outside. Everyone is outside excepts for Ryan and Chris. Adrian stands up.
Adrian: Okay everyone. For today, we'll have to fix the fence, but I'll let Ryan and Chris do that. And the others could go for a run or stay here. Does that sound good?
Everyone just nods.
Adrian: Okay, now who wants to go on a run?
Candice: I'd like to go. If you don't mind.
Adrian: Yeah sure.
Zayn: Can I go?
Adrian: I'd rather have you here incase Ryan and Chris need help with the fence.
Zayn sighs.
Zayn: Alright, you probably need my strength.
Everyone scoffs and roll their eyes.
Adrian: Maybe you can go tomorrow. Anyone else?
Ruby: I want to.
Adrian nods.
Alex: I'd like to go too. It wasn't that bad yesterday.
Zayn looks confused at Alex and gives her a elbow bump. Alex looks confused at Zayn.
Adrian: Okay then. If that's it get ready for a run.

Jason is in his room. He takes his shirt off and looks at his torso. He takes off the bandage. The wound has turned into a scab. He hears footsteps coming towards his room and he quickly puts on another shirt. Tyler comes in.
Tyler: Hey. I wanted to come on the run too, but I thought it's probably not a smart idea because I kind of passed out yesterday.
Jason: I don't blame you. I would stay here with you, but I really want to go. I used to play football, and whenever I was running on the field I could just forget about life.
Tyler smiles at him.
Tyler: You played football?
Jason: Yeah. I did for a while, but eventually I was kicked off the team.
Tyler looks confused.
Tyler: Why?
Jason: Uhm, I was a little too aggressive on the field...
Jason looks down at the ground. Tyler looks confused.
Tyler: Too aggressive for football?
Jason: Yeah, I got annoyed when the opponents would play dirty, so I played dirty as well, I like, once broke somebody's arm so I wasn't allowed to play anymore.
Tyler: Oh shit I'm sorry.
Jason: It's okay, my coach got revenge for it.
Jason shrugs it off. Tyler looks wondering at Jason.
