JAXON COULDN'T CATCH A FUCKING BREAK. ever since the rumors about him and sabrina carpenter started blowing up, his phone had been buzzing like it was on fire. and to make things worse, lily-rose was back in his life—or at least, she was trying to be.
he'd been ignoring her texts all morning, but it didn't stop the familiar knot from twisting in his stomach every time her name flashed on his screen. the last thing he needed was another round of lily drama, especially not with the media breathing down his neck about some fake relationship with a girl he didn't even know.
jaxon leaned against the kitchen counter, staring at his phone like it was the enemy. he wasn't going to answer her. not this time.
"fuck this," he muttered, shoving the phone into his pocket and grabbing his jacket. sitting around in his apartment, overthinking every little thing wasn't helping. he needed to get out. clear his head.
ten minutes later, he was banging on ross' door. the guy answered after a few loud curses, swinging the door open with a half-eaten sandwich in his hand.
"jesus, man, it's too early for you to be this pissed off," ross said, mouth full, stepping aside to let jaxon in.
"you have no idea," jaxon muttered, brushing past him and heading straight for the couch. ross's apartment was a mess, as usual—empty pizza boxes on the coffee table, a half-finished bottle of whiskey on the floor, and a pile of laundry that looked like it hadn't been touched in weeks.
"so," ross said, collapsing onto the couch next to him, "you here to rant about your fake girlfriend?"
jaxon glared at him. "fuck off."
ross snorted. "nah, for real. the internet's eating that shit up. you've seen the edits, right? the fanfic?"
"i don't care about the fucking edits," jaxon snapped, rubbing his face with both hands. "i don't even know her. how the fuck did this get so out of hand?"
ross shrugged, kicking his feet up on the coffee table. "welcome to the world of shipping. fans get bored, they make shit up. now you're hollywood's hottest new couple. congrats."
"we're not a couple."
"yeah, well, try telling the internet that. they're obsessed."
jaxon groaned, leaning back against the couch cushions. "this is such bullshit. i wore a fucking shirt, and now they think we're soulmates or some shit."
ross grinned, clearly enjoying this more than he should. "well, it was a fleetwood mac shirt. can't say i blame 'em. that's some romantic energy right there."
"fuck you," jaxon muttered, though a small, grudging smile tugged at his lips.
"hey, i'm just saying, could be worse. at least the media's not still all over you about lily."
