IT HAD BEEN THREE DAYS since the drive, and sabrina couldn't stop thinking about it.

the way the city lights had stretched out below them, the quiet between her and jaxon, the way he had almost kissed her but pulled away at the last second. it had left her feeling unsteady, like they were on the verge of something bigger but didn't know how to take the next step.

now, they were back in the studio, the same familiar space that had become their sanctuary. but tonight, something felt different. the air was heavier, more charged, and every time their eyes met, sabrina felt that same tension—like there was something unsaid hanging between them.

"alright," jaxon said, sitting on the edge of the couch with his guitar resting on his lap. "let's run through the chorus one more time."

sabrina nodded, adjusting the mic as the soft hum of the guitar filled the studio. but as jaxon started to play, her mind drifted back to that night, to the way he had looked at her, so intense and so... something else.

she shook her head, trying to focus on the music. they were almost done with the song—just a few more tweaks and it would be perfect. but every time she tried to focus, her thoughts wandered back to him.

jaxon played the last chord, his fingers lingering on the strings as the sound faded into the quiet of the studio.

"that's it," jaxon said softly, his eyes meeting hers. "that's the sound."

sabrina's heart skipped a beat at the way he was looking at her—like the music was just a backdrop to something bigger, something they weren't ready to say yet.

"yeah," sabrina whispered, her voice barely audible. "it's perfect."

they sat there in the quiet for a moment, the tension between them thick and heavy. sabrina could feel the weight of everything they weren't saying, everything they were holding back. but neither of them moved, neither of them broke the silence.

until jaxon set his guitar down, leaning back slightly as he looked at her. "can i ask you something?"

sabrina blinked, her heart racing. "yeah. of course."

jaxon hesitated for a moment, his eyes searching hers. "the other night, when we went for that drive..."

sabrina's breath caught in her throat. she had been wondering when he was going to bring it up, wondering if he had felt the same tension she had.

"yeah?" she said softly, her voice shaking slightly.

jaxon leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees as he stared down at the floor. "did it feel... different to you? like, more than just a drive?"

sabrina's pulse quickened, her chest tightening. there it is, she thought. he felt it too.

"yeah," sabrina admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "it felt different."
