IT HAD BEEN TWO WEEKS since sabrina had asked for space, and jaxon was losing it.
the silence was killing him. she had barely responded to his messages, keeping things short and distant. and every time he tried to call, she either ignored it or said she was busy.
busy doing what? jaxon thought bitterly as he paced around his apartment, the frustration bubbling just beneath the surface. he understood needing time—hell, he had been there before. but this... this felt different. like she was slowly slipping away from him, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
the worst part? he had no idea if she was ever going to come back.
he grabbed his phone from the counter, his fingers hovering over her name in his contacts. he wanted to call her, to hear her voice, to talk things out. but deep down, he knew that wasn't what she wanted. she needed time. and no matter how much it hurt, he had to respect that.
but what if time just makes her realize she doesn't want this anymore?
the thought hit him like a punch to the gut, and before he could stop himself, he hit call.
the phone rang once. then twice. then three times.
"come on, sab," jaxon muttered under his breath, his heart racing as he listened to the ringing. "just pick up."
but she didn't. the call went to voicemail, and jaxon felt the frustration rise up in his chest like a wave, threatening to drown him.
_______________
across town, sabrina stared at her phone as jaxon's name flashed on the screen.
her heart ached as she let it ring, knowing he was probably getting frustrated with her. she hated ignoring him, hated the way things had spiraled so quickly between them. but every time she thought about picking up the phone, her chest tightened with doubt and fear.
what if lily's right? what if this is all just a mess waiting to explode?
it wasn't that she didn't care about jaxon. she did—more than she had ever expected to. but the pressure of it all, the media attention, the whispers from fans, and lily's constant presence in the background... it was suffocating. she felt like she was drowning in it, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake the feeling that maybe she wasn't strong enough to handle this.
when the phone finally stopped ringing, sabrina let out a long breath, tossing it onto the couch as she buried her face in her hands. she knew she was hurting him, knew that every day she stayed silent was just making things worse. but she didn't know how to talk to him—not when she didn't even know what to say to herself.
what if they weren't strong enough? what if everything they had built together was already falling apart?
the thought sent a wave of panic through her chest, and she stood up abruptly, pacing around the room as her mind raced with a thousand different thoughts.
