THE BACKSTAGE CONFRONTATION with jaxon left sabrina reeling. after the press event, where the reporters had thrown question after question at her about him and lily, it had taken everything she had not to break down in front of the cameras. now, standing here with jaxon, she felt like she was at the edge of a cliff, and one wrong move would send her tumbling into the abyss.
"do you want to fix this?" jaxon asked, his voice tense, his eyes searching hers. he looked desperate, like he was clinging to something that was already slipping through his fingers.
"i don't know," sabrina whispered, her voice trembling. "i don't know if i can."
jaxon's face fell, his expression hardening. "what does that mean, sabrina? you can't or you won't?"
the question hit her like a punch to the gut. she wanted to say that she could, that they could make this work, but deep down, she wasn't sure if that was true anymore. the trust she had once had in him felt fractured, especially after seeing him with lily. and no matter how hard she tried to convince herself otherwise, the doubt kept creeping in.
"i don't know if i can trust you," sabrina admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "after everything with lily... i don't know how to."
jaxon's eyes widened in shock, and then his expression turned to one of pain. "lily? sabrina, nothing happened with her. i was with her because i needed to clear my head, but that's it. i've told you that."
sabrina looked away, her chest tight. "it's not just about that night, jaxon. it's everything. the media, the rumors, the constant pressure. i feel like i'm drowning in all of it, and every time i try to breathe, something else comes up that makes me question everything."
"so you're saying you don't believe me?" jaxon asked, his voice cracking with frustration. "you think i'm lying?"
"i don't know what to think," sabrina whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. "all i know is that i can't keep living like this, constantly wondering if you're being honest with me, constantly doubting what we have."
jaxon's jaw clenched, and he took a step back, his hands balling into fists at his sides. "so that's it? you're giving up?"
sabrina didn't answer. she couldn't. the weight of everything—the mistrust, the fear, the pressure—was pressing down on her so hard she could barely breathe. she had fought so hard to hold on to what they had, but now, she wasn't sure if there was anything left to hold on to.
"i don't want to give up," sabrina said finally, her voice shaky. "but i don't know if i can fix this. i don't know if we can."
jaxon stared at her, his eyes full of hurt and anger. for a moment, neither of them said anything, the silence between them thick with everything they hadn't said, everything they had been avoiding.
finally, jaxon let out a long breath, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "maybe you're right," he said quietly. "maybe we can't fix this."
sabrina's heart shattered at his words, but deep down, she knew he was right. the trust between them had been broken, and no matter how much they cared about each other, it wasn't enough to fix what was already falling apart.
