IT HAD BEEN A FEW WEEKS since sabrina and barry had met up, and though things had been quiet since, sabrina wasn't surprised when she received another text from him one evening

she stared at the message for a long time, her mind spinning. she hadn't expected barry to come back into her life in such a familiar way. their last meet-up had been a strange mix of nostalgia and comfort, but sabrina had walked away feeling more confused than ever.

now, with jaxon out of her life, the idea of seeing barry again felt like stepping into something that might make things easier—or much, much more complicated.

a few hours later, sabrina found herself sitting at a cozy café, waiting for barry to show up. when he finally walked in, his familiar crooked smile made something inside her relax. there was no pressure with barry. no media storm, no trust issues, just two people who had once shared something real.

"hey," barry said, sliding into the seat across from her. "how've you been?"

sabrina forced a smile, shrugging. "you know. getting by."

"yeah," barry said softly, his eyes searching hers. "i heard about you and jaxon."

sabrina's chest tightened, but she nodded. "yeah. we're... not together anymore."

"i'm sorry, sab," barry said, his voice genuine. "i know that must be tough."

sabrina let out a breath, leaning back in her chair. "it is. but maybe it was for the best. we had... a lot of issues."

barry nodded, his eyes softening. "sometimes things don't work out the way we hope. but that doesn't mean there isn't something better waiting for you."

the words hung between them, and for a moment, sabrina wasn't sure how to respond. she could feel the unspoken tension in barry's tone, like he was hinting at something more. part of her wanted to lean into it, to let herself be comforted by the familiar ease of their relationship. but another part of her knew that going down that road again might not be the answer.

"maybe," sabrina said finally, her voice quiet. "but i don't know what i want anymore."

barry gave her a small smile. "you'll figure it out. and if you ever need someone to talk to, i'm here."
