Avery's POV
As I approached my desk, my knees weakened. Linder had just rushed to the bathroom.
Our team members swarmed around me, firing off tons of questions."What did the CEO tell you?"
"Are you guys fired?" Mark asked. I chugged the entire contents of my water bottle in one gulp.
After briefly addressing their questions, I immersed myself in my work to shake off the events that happened through out the day and the CEO's piercing stare.
Linder and I didn't exchange a word until we left the office. "How are you doing?" I asked her as we stepped into the elevator together.
"I'm fine, you?" she asked. "Good" I responded. Linder had to meet her boyfriend so we parted ways.
I remained spaced out until I arrived home. I heard a lot of noise from inside our house.My aunt and her kids were visiting for a few days and their chatter filled the house.
They bombarded me with a whole lot of questions when I entered.My cousins Rita and Josh rushed to me and I pulled them in a hug.
I was so exhausted so I excused myself and retreated to my room, freshened up, and crawled into my bed, lacking the appetite to eat dinner.
I picked up my tablet and continued reading the novel that had captivated me until I drifted off to sleep.
The alarm's buzzing jolted me awake. After my morning routine, I joined my family for breakfast before heading to work.
Arriving punctually, as always, I entered our department to find an unsettling stillness. Everyone's gaze seemed fixated on something.
I turned to see those captivating blue eyes, and my knees weakened again. His gaze held multiple emotions, leaving me perplexed.
"Good morning, Sir," I hastily greeted, rushing to my desk.
"Hold it right there," his cold voice commanded, sending shivers down my spine. My heart pounded.
"What have I done again this time?" I thought.I focused on my breathing and turned to face him. Our eyes locked and I blushed.
He turned to everyone and announced,
"From today forward, Avery Hauler will lead the legal services department," he announced.
"What?!"
