Avery's POV

I groggily opened my eyes to the sound of knocking on my door. My head throbbed, and my wound ached, making me wince.

Who could be visiting at this ungodly hour? The knocking persisted, growing louder.

"Linder?" I croaked, my voice barely audible.

The door swung open, and Linder rushed in, carrying a tray laden with steaming food. Her eyes widened as she took in my disheveled state.

"Oh. My. God, Avery!" Linder exclaimed, setting the tray down. "Your dad is going to end up killing you one day!

How can he do this to his own daughter? He's gone too far!"

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes as I struggled to sit up. Linder rushed to my side, helping me.

"Shh, Linder, please," I whispered urgently. "Don't get yourself in trouble. Keep quiet."

Linder's face contorted in anguish, but she nodded. She handed me a glass of water and helped me take a sip.

As I ate, Linder's anger simmered beneath the surface. "We should report him to the cops!" she declared.

I grasped her hand firmly. "No, Linder. You can't. He'll destroy anyone who crosses him."

After finishing my meal, I freshened up, and we took a walk outside. Linder eyed my wound, her brow furrowed.

"Are you coming to work tomorrow?" she asked.

"Yeah, I need to escape," I replied, my voice laced with desperation.

As we strolled, memories flooded back: my dad's menacing words, the feel of his fist connecting with my face, and the excruciating pain.

Linder noticed my faltering steps. "Avery, what's wrong?"

"My dad..." I choked, my voice trembling. "He's arranging my engagement. We're meeting the groom's family on Tuesday."

Linder's eyes widened in horror. "What the...?!" she screamed.

My legs buckled, and I collapsed onto a nearby bench. Linder wrapped her arms around me, holding me tight.

"We'll figure something out," she whispered, tears streaming down her face.

Linder's desperate gaze locked onto mine. "Let's run away. We can start anew."

But I knew better,my dad's mafia gang would haunt me down.

I laughed bitterly, a sob catching in my throat. "You don't understand. My dad will find me, no matter where we hide."

As dusk fell, Linder walked me back home, her arm around my shoulders. We both knew I was trapped.

As I lay in bed, tears soaked my pillow. My future seemed sealed – a life of misery, bound to a man I'd never met.

It's game over..
