Linder's POV
Avery stormed out of the CEO's office, her face a thundercloud. I worried about what had triggered her anger.
I had to wait till we closed before I could find out. Time went by swiftly and it was closing time even before I realized.
"What's wrong?" I asked, as we left work and headed to our favorite restaurant. You have been moody since you came from the CEO's office, I stated.
Avery's eyes flashed with frustration. "That CEO is unbearable!" She shared the whole story, her voice trembling.
He asked who gave me that wound....so authoritatively. I think he's spying on me.
I listened, my concern growing. "Does the CEO "like" you?" I asked, emphasizing on the "like".
Avery shook her head, her expression disgusted. "Ew, no way."
"Are you taking tomorrow off?" I asked, already knowing the answer.
Avery nodded, her shoulders slumping in defeat. "Yeah. I don't want to disobey my dad anymore, there's nothing I can do.
I guess it's game over for me, she said,her head down.
My heart went out to her. I felt a surge of protectiveness. Avery was my best friend and in times like this,we need to help each other.
After dinner, we parted ways, Avery trudging home while I headed to my new apartment across the street. I couldn't shake off the feeling of helplessness.
Determined to help Avery, I settled in and dialed a crucial contact.
"Hello, can we meet?" I asked, my voice laced with nervous determination.
I needed to save my bestie....
