Xander's POV

Gio waited patiently as I wrapped up work, and I repaid him with dinner at an upscale eatery.

My gaze drifted across the room, locking onto Avery, who was celebrating with her team. Her infectious laughter captivated me.

"Hey, bro, our food's arrived," Gio said, breaking my trance. "Who's caught your eye?" He turned, spotting Avery.

"Who's that beauty? She seems just my type."

My protective instincts flared, and I warned, "Don't even think about staring at her with that lustful eyes of yours or I'll gouge them out.

" Gio chuckled, "Easy, bro."Who is she?" he asked, curiosity getting the better of him.

I sighed, memories flooding back. "Avery Hauler, Dyle's daughter, and surprisingly, our company's newest addition."

As we savored our lamb chops, Gio nudged me. "Check out those two guys." They leered at Avery, their eyes crawling over her like vultures.

They called the waiter and gave him something and he also foolishly added it to the drink and served it to Avery and her friend.

My anger simmered, boiling my blood. Gio cautioned, "Don't let emotions get the better of you, Xander." But I couldn't stand idly by.

They left after sometime, looking completely drunk. The guys also followed them.

We followed them, arriving just in time to prevent a nightmare. Rage boiled within me as I confronted Avery's assailant while Gio rescued Linder.

Avery trembled in my arms, tears streaming down her face. Consoling her, I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility.

"It's alright," I whispered, my voice trembling. "You're safe now." But she continued crying, her body shaking.

I cradled her in my arms and took her to my car. Gio followed with Linder. "I've got Avery," I said, my voice firm.

As I drove to Avery's house. Her whispers pierced my heart. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please Dad..." A tear escaped, and I gently wiped it away.

I tied my tie on her wound to avoid the blood from seeping too much.

Noticing a peculiar scar on her shoulder, my curiosity piqued. I tried to touch it.

But she jolted awake, I'm very sorry sir, thank you for saving us.

"She rushed out of the car and into her house.

In front of her stairs, she tripped and fell. My instincts screamed to help, but I hesitated.

With a heavy heart, I drove away into the night.
