72 hours before the banquet
Sana Huang was many things, smart, someone with a neck and thirst for knowledge. Unprepared and stupid weren't any of those qualities though.
As she sat there brewing tea in her private room at one of the local tea houses she couldn't help but to think back on the conversation she had just 2 days ago. Daiyu Li was going to be a woman that held power regardless of where she ended up after her stay in the palace. Only a fool would look at the young girl and not see the absolute potential that she had. Of course it was no surprise to her that her beloved lǎoshī would take on the young girl as his student.
She saw much of her younger self within the farmer's daughter. A mind that was far too sharp and cunning to be wasted away as somebody's little wife. She couldn't stop the grin that started to grow on her face. She remembered the first time it was announced her marriage too the Huang heir. The gossip and Fallout was quite scandalous they couldn't believe at this foreign woman was going to steal away one of the most sought after and affluential bachelors in their kingdom.
Many believing that her beauty had somehow Bewitched him which wasn't wrong but also wasn't right. The empress at the time her grandmother was from the same country as Sana she knew how smart the women there were. She understood that the only reason why the empire was as successful as it was today was things to her grandmother. Yet because they have had not an ounce of contact with the country and so long she took this opportunity to talk with her husband convinced him that while they could not marry her off to their own crown Prince and would be pity to marry her off to any of the others they could solidify the countries footing by marrying her off to the second most powerful family.
The Huang family which many seem to forget is a branch of a legitimate children. They're matriarch being a daughter born out of wedlock two emperors ago. Technically they are cousins of some sort to the royal family it's one of the reasons why they are so highly favorited because of that blood tie and if anything were to happen to the main branch naturally they would be the ones to take over.
As she sat there looking out among the patreons below she couldn't help but to think of Renjun. Her conversation with him is going to have to happen sooner rather than later. At the same time she was still quite confused on where exactly the man stood. She understood his frustrations with always being the one to save the kingdom on the other hand she was also well aware of the fact that maybe he was unaware himself but that was something he did to himself.
If there was one thing that she admired about the emperor and the empress is that they never force their children to do or be anything. Renjun whether he is aware of it or not stepped up to be the crown Prince he did everything in his power to make sure that he was always number one among his brothers. She can remember the many times that emperors would talk to her about being worried for her son because it seemed no matter how hard they try to get him to play to interact to not take things so seriously it was as if it went right over his head. It might have been a subconscious thing but a part of him wanted to make sure that he would be the one in power something that even his brothers had seen the irony she thinks. Two of his older brothers had tried very hard to convince their father to make them the next crown Prince even with their marriages being solidified or their love existing in their life already and yet your little brother seem to always manage to one of them to the point where they decided to fall back cuz clearly this was his destiny and something he was desperate to have yet now he acts as if they're very crown he fought for was worth nothing more than dust in the wind.
Yes she can help but to think about the one shortcoming she felt as of her dear friend the emperor's had always had which was her need for perfection. She wouldn't be surprised if the poor boy was unaware of the fact that the only reason he strive so hard to become the crown Prince was because of his beloved mother while she loved and died on her sons her favoritism clearly always went to those who fit her idea of perfection the absolute perfect noble man someone worthy enough to possibly be the next emperor and that's exactly what her son had become sadly neither one of them was aware of the fact that it seemed to be the very thing slowly killing him inside.
