The sun shone brightly as Ken and Wenny made their way to school the next morning. The events of the previous night still hung in the air, but there was a new sense of closeness between them. They walked side by side, fingers entwined, a silent agreement that they would face whatever came next together.
As they approached the school gates, Ken felt a familiar rush of anxiety. High school was a battlefield in its own right, filled with social dynamics and unspoken rules. But with Wenny by her side, she felt a little more prepared.
“Are you ready for today?” Wenny asked, glancing up at Ken with a playful smile.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Ken replied, a smirk tugging at her lips. “What about you? You’re the one who almost took down a masked villain last night.”
Wenny chuckled, a lightness in her voice. “I’m just following your lead, Spider-Man.”
They entered the bustling school courtyard, the noise of students mingling and chatting creating a lively atmosphere. As they walked through the crowd, Ken noticed a group of girls whispering and glancing in their direction. Her heart raced, and she instinctively tightened her grip on Wenny’s hand.
“Do you think they’re talking about us?” Wenny asked, tilting her head slightly.
Ken shrugged, trying to play it cool. “Probably. We’re not exactly subtle.”
Suddenly, one of the girls from the group, a tall girl with long brown hair, stepped forward. “Hey, Wenny! Who’s that?” she asked, a teasing lilt in her voice.
“This is Ken,” Wenny replied, her chin lifted defiantly. “My girlfriend.”
Ken’s heart raced at the words. They had only just started to explore their relationship, but Wenny was claiming it boldly. The moment felt monumental, and Ken couldn’t help but smile at the way Wenny’s eyes sparkled with pride.
“Oh really? I didn’t know you were into girls now, Wenny!” the girl said, feigning shock. The group erupted into laughter.
Ken felt her cheeks heat up, a mix of embarrassment and annoyance. Wenny, however, stood tall and unbothered.
“Yeah, well, Ken’s pretty special,” Wenny replied, a smirk on her lips. “You should try it sometime.”
The girls were taken aback for a moment, but then they started to laugh again, this time in a more supportive way. “Good for you, Wenny!” one of them called out.
As they walked away, Ken turned to Wenny, a teasing smile on her face. “You didn’t have to say that. What if they think we’re, like, a couple or something?”
Wenny shot her a playful glare. “What’s wrong with that? I thought we were.”
Ken’s heart fluttered at the implication. “Yeah, but what if they don’t take it seriously?”
“Who cares what they think?” Wenny replied, her tone firm. “What matters is that we’re happy.”
The bell rang, signaling the start of the first period, and they made their way to their respective classes. Ken couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. Being with Wenny made everything feel different.
As she settled into her seat, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something had changed. She glanced around the classroom, her mind wandering back to the fight from the previous night. It felt like a lifetime ago, yet the adrenaline still buzzed through her.
Throughout the morning, Ken found it hard to concentrate. Her thoughts drifted to Wenny, her laughter, the way she stood up for them. Ken had always been the lone wolf, but now she was part of something bigger.
At lunch, Ken found Wenny sitting at their usual spot, a tray of food in front of her. “Hey, how was class?” Wenny asked, looking up with a bright smile.
“Boring as usual. I can’t wait for this day to be over,” Ken replied, plopping down beside her.
“Same. But at least I get to spend it with you,” Wenny said, her eyes twinkling.
Just then, a familiar face appeared. It was Haley, the girl Ken had been with at the café. She approached their table, a wide grin on her face. “Hey, Ken! Fancy seeing you here!”
Wenny’s expression instantly shifted, a hint of jealousy creeping into her features. “Hey, Haley,” she replied coolly.
Ken could sense the tension in the air. “What’s up?” Ken asked, trying to diffuse the situation.
“I just wanted to invite you both to the party at Jake’s this weekend. It’s going to be epic!” Haley said enthusiastically.
Wenny’s jaw tightened slightly. “Sounds fun,” she said, her voice lacking enthusiasm.
Ken glanced between them, feeling the tension rise. “Yeah, that could be fun. What do you think, Wenny?”
Wenny hesitated, her gaze fixed on Haley. “I guess it depends on who else is going.”
Haley shrugged, unfazed. “A lot of people will be there. It’s going to be a great time!”
Ken could feel Wenny’s irritation brewing beneath the surface. “Well, we’ll think about it,” Wenny replied, her tone clipped.
Haley noticed the shift in the atmosphere and quickly backed off. “Alright, just let me know!” she said before walking away.
The moment she left, Wenny let out a sigh of frustration. “Why does she always have to show up like that?”
Ken raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “You’re not jealous, are you?”
“Me? Jealous? Never,” Wenny scoffed, but her tone was betraying her.
Ken smirked, leaning closer. “You sure? Because you looked pretty annoyed back there.”
Wenny rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile. “Maybe just a little. But it’s not like you care about her, right?”
“Of course not,” Ken replied, her voice steady. “I’m all about you.”
Wenny blushed at Ken’s words, and the tension between them eased. They spent the rest of lunch joking and teasing each other, the earlier moment forgotten.
As the school day went on, Ken realized that no matter the challenges they faced, having Wenny by her side made everything worthwhile. With their relationship blossoming and their newfound bond, Ken felt ready to face whatever the future held—both in school and as Spider-Man.
