The next day, Ken and Wenny walked to school, hand in hand, the morning sun casting a warm glow on their path. Ken felt a mix of excitement and anxiety about how the day would unfold, especially after the unexpected turn their relationship had taken. As they entered the bustling cafeteria, they spotted a group of girls sitting at a nearby table, their laughter ringing through the air. Ken recognized them as the same girls who had spoken to Wenny the day before.
“Look who it is,” Wenny muttered, her voice low, a hint of annoyance creeping in.
Ken glanced over, her heart racing slightly. “They’re just being friendly,” she replied, trying to brush it off, but she couldn’t ignore the knot tightening in her stomach.
As if on cue, the girls stood up and approached their table, led by the same girl who had teased Wenny. “Hey, Wenny! And Ken, right?” she said with a bright smile.
“Yeah, that’s me,” Ken replied, returning their smiles, though she sensed Wenny’s irritation next to her.
“What’s up? You two look cozy today,” the girl said, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Just hanging out,” Wenny replied curtly, crossing her arms.
The girl ignored Wenny’s tone, focusing her attention on Ken instead. “So, Ken, we saw you at the party planning meeting yesterday. You should totally come to the party this weekend! It’ll be so much fun, and we’d love to see you there!”
Ken chuckled, trying to keep the atmosphere light. “Thanks, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to make it,” she said, casting a glance at Wenny, who was now tapping her foot impatiently.
“Come on! You can’t miss it. We’ll have a blast!” another girl chimed in, stepping closer to Ken, her playful demeanor evident. “I’ve heard so much about you. I mean, you’re the legendary Spider-Man, right? That’s super cool!”
Ken smiled at the compliment, but she felt Wenny’s gaze burning into her side. “Yeah, I guess,” she replied, trying to deflect the attention.
One of the girls leaned in closer, a teasing glint in her eyes. “So, what do you like to do for fun? Maybe we could hang out sometime… just us girls?”
Wenny’s posture stiffened beside her, and Ken could practically feel the heat radiating off her. “You know, Ken is kind of busy,” Wenny interjected, her voice sharper than before. “And she has plans.”
“Plans? Like what?” the girl pressed, her tone light but with an underlying challenge.
Wenny didn’t hesitate. “Plans to spend time with me,” she replied firmly, her eyes narrowing slightly.
Ken’s heart raced. She appreciated Wenny standing up for her, but she also didn’t want to create a scene. “It’s cool, Wenny,” she said, attempting to diffuse the tension. “I appreciate the invite, but I really don’t think—”
“Come on, Ken! Just a little coffee or something? I promise we’ll make it fun!” one of the girls insisted, clearly unfazed by Wenny’s glare.
Wenny stepped forward, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Oh, how generous of you. But I think she’s already busy with someone who actually matters.”
Ken shot Wenny a concerned look, sensing that things were about to escalate. “Wenny, it’s fine—”
The girl smirked, clearly enjoying the banter. “Wow, it seems like someone is really protective of you, Ken. Are you sure you want to be with her?”
“Yeah, I’m sure,” Ken replied, her tone firm. “Wenny means a lot to me.”
The group of girls exchanged glances, surprised by Ken’s boldness. Wenny’s expression softened, but the girls weren’t ready to back down.
“Alright, we’ll let you two have your moment,” the leader said, raising her hands in mock surrender. “But don’t be surprised if we see you at the party!”
As they walked away, Wenny huffed, crossing her arms tightly. “I can’t believe they just came over like that. Who do they think they are?”
Ken turned to her, a small smile playing on her lips. “You were pretty fierce back there. I like it.”
Wenny’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she uncrossed her arms. “Well, I just don’t like the idea of them flirting with you like that. You’re mine, Ken.”
“I know,” Ken replied, feeling warmth spread through her. “And I’m all yours.”
Wenny’s expression softened as she met Ken’s gaze, and the tension from earlier melted away. They settled into their meal, sharing jokes and laughter, the earlier confrontation forgotten.
But in the back of Ken’s mind, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the attention she had attracted might lead to more challenges ahead. Still, with Wenny by her side, she felt ready to take on anything.
