Author's Note
Hey beautiful people! I hope you guys have been enjoying the recent chapters. I've been on a writing frenzy lately, so I'm hoping I can maintain the weekly updates.
This chapter is a filler chapter so it's a little short, but the drama is still brewing. Hopefully, you enjoy it nonetheless.
Also just to forewarn you, there will be some small time jumps over the next couple of chapters just to give an idea of how long this phase Layla is going through is lasting. Also, I'll probably continue telling this part of the story from Eli's POV for now.
As always, please remember to vote and comment on the story, I always love to get feedback from my readers!
Next chapter dropping Sunday, 11/10 @12pm PST!

Elijah POV
Two days later...
I sat in Layla's hospital room waiting for the doctor to come with an update. I listened to the sounds all the machines she was hooked up to made. Layla was asleep in her hospital bed at the moment and we were waiting on her to wake up.
"Alright hello Mr. Tate! How are you this morning?" the doctor asked in a cheerful voice.
"As good as I can be right now. You have any updates?" I asked keeping it short and to the point.
"Well as we discussed a couple days ago. Layla's body suffered a major trauma. However, we were lucky that you got to her in the nick of time. It's honestly just short of a miracle that her brain didn't suffer any major damage. However, her body still needed to heal from the lapse of oxygen to her brain. So we put her in a medically induced-coma for 48 hours. She should be waking up from that later this afternoon. Once she wakes up, I suggest that she takes it easy for at least three to four weeks. No strenuous exercise, no unnecessary stress. I would also recommend that she begin some form of therapy so that we can address the real issue here which is her mental health," she explained.
"Sounds good doc, thanks for the update." I said.
"Of course. Once she wakes up, just inform the nurse and she can be discharged from there." she said.
"Alright I will. Thanks again." I said as she walked off.
I stayed in the hospital room with Layla for a couple more hours before leaving to go get the kids from school. My grandma was still watching them for me, but she doesn't drive anymore now that she's older, so I still had to do pick-up and drop-off for the kids at school.
Within a few hours I was back at the hospital with Layla. When I walked inside her room, I saw her curled up facing away from me staring out the window.
"Hey mama you feelin alright?" I asked her not quite sure how to approach her given the situation that happened.
Instead of responding she just nodded. Sensing that she needed a minute to process everything, I just left her to be in her own thoughts for a bit. I left for a few minutes to make sure the nurses knew she was awake so that she could be discharged. Once I let them know, I went back and sat in the room with Layla for moral support.
Two hours later, Layla was discharged we could go home. I brought her with me to go get the kids so I could keep an eye on her and from there we went home. When we got to the house, Layla followed the same routine as before. Without speaking, she went up to the room and got in the bed.
I honestly don't know what to do or how to approach the situation. This isn't something I've ever dealt with before. It's different when it's your spouse and your co-parent. As a spouse I want to be there for her, but I don't want to overstep my boundaries and seem overbearing. As a parent I'm frustrated because there's so much more responsibility that's falling on me. I'm just trying to balance it all.
